Yes, I am biased, because I've always found his brand of left wing wokery unfunny, but, let's face it, to think he could go on stage in front of that audience, with his usual routine of 'Brexit supporters are stupid' and not get the odd bread roll thrown at him, is pretty arrogant.

IHateBlueLights · 04/12/2019 11:29

Funny how a lot of people on Mumsnet were ok when people were throwing milkshakes over right wing MPs but as soon as one bread roll is thrown at someone who is a remainer, they become paragons of virtue

Which particular people do you mean? Without evidence your point doesn't exist. Makes you look a bit stupid, really.

WarmSausageTea · 04/12/2019 11:30

According to Twitter one of the things he said before he started getting booed was:

“I want you white people in the audience to do something for me. I want you to go home and kill your Brexit-voting parents.”

Is hate speech what passes for comedy these days?

No, of course it isn’t, but this is according to twitter, so it might be worth fact-checking before quoting.

MrsMaiselsMuff · 04/12/2019 11:30

According to Twitter

So probably not true. It wouldn't make sense if it was, the majority of the attendees at this event would be older Brexit voting people. Their parents are already dead.

Patroclus · 04/12/2019 11:31

Throwing stuff at a charity gig. Classy.

Actionhasmagic · 04/12/2019 11:31

Brexit supporters ARE stupid though

Gardai · 04/12/2019 11:32

We are not a collective here you know ?! I don’t think throwing anything at a person in public or private is on.

Nessaofbarry · 04/12/2019 11:32

It was all over the news my lovely, you know exactly what I’m talking about! You don’t need to play the faux ignorance card when the threads were all over MN.

Foghead · 04/12/2019 11:33

It’s poor form to throw things at him even if he isn’t to the audiences liking.
I saw him on stage a few weeks ago as part of a comedy evening, and every time someone one got up, he asked them if they were going for a shit. Hmm
I didn’t find him particularly funny during the evening and I’m fairly left myself.
I didn’t throw anything at him though.
Thank goodness the other comedians were actually funny.

Vulpine · 04/12/2019 11:33

Shoulda booked geoff norcott who touts himself as a unique voice in british comedy because he right wing. I am not right wing but think he's funny and would eat my bread rolls rather than thriw them at him.

Gardai · 04/12/2019 11:34

Well if it was all over the news Nessa do enlighten us ? Mumsnetters throwing milkshakes or rolls ?

Patroclus · 04/12/2019 11:35

oh, turns he he also did it for free.

FrenchJunebug · 04/12/2019 11:35

I like it and the reaction of the audience is childish and mob mentality.

Nessaofbarry · 04/12/2019 11:36

Well if it was all over the news Nessa do enlighten us ? Mumsnetters throwing milkshakes or rolls
I didn’t say MNers were throwing stuff, I said that people were defending milkshakes being thrown

VolcanionSteamArtillery · 04/12/2019 11:37

Probably raised his profile as much as if the gig had gone off without a hitch.... I call that a win regardless

BertrandRussell · 04/12/2019 11:38

“ “I want you white people in the audience to do something for me. I want you to go home and kill your Brexit-voting parents.”
I would be amazed if he said that! But- happy to be proved wrong if anyone knows better.

LarkDescending · 04/12/2019 11:39

Which MNers were OK with milkshake-throwing but not OK with bread roll throwing?

If the organisers didn’t want his brand of comedy they shouldn’t have invited him to give his time for the benefit of the charity.

deydododatdodontdeydo · 04/12/2019 11:40

Perhaps they were different people?
I condemn both. Maybe some people condone both?
Maybe some people are hypocritical as you suggest.

PlacidPenelope · 04/12/2019 11:40

Vulpine according to the reports ONE person threw ONE bread roll and was immediately castigated by others.

IHateBlueLights there were several threads on here where posters were falling over themselves laughing and defending the person who threw a milkshake over Nigel Farage and questioning and dismissing the report regarding the elderly gentleman who had something similar thrown over him during the EU elections.

No-one should have anything thrown at them or over them whoever they may be.

midnightmisssuki · 04/12/2019 11:41

What a waste of food. Absolute idiots.

Gardai · 04/12/2019 11:41

“People” Nessa ?
I don’t consider the entirety of Mumsnet to be of a similar mind.
This thread is a good example of this whereby we have a few sniggering supporters of bread throwing at a comedian, working for free because he’s a ‘lefty’.

Btw I don’t even like the comedian.

IHateBlueLights · 04/12/2019 11:42

It was all over the news my lovely, you know exactly what I’m talking about! You don’t need to play the faux ignorance card when the threads were all over MN.

Yes, dearie. But without specifying which MNetters you mean then you have no point to make. We are all different. Maybe those who disapprove of the bread throwing also disapprove of the milk shake throwing. You have zero evidence otherwise. So still sounding a bit daft.

BertrandRussell · 04/12/2019 11:44

“ questioning and dismissing the report regarding the elderly gentleman who had something similar thrown over him during the EU elections.”
Oh yes- that story that mysteriously vanished when people started asking questions.....

I don’t think anyone should throw anything at anybody,-and I didn’t support the milk shaking. But there is a difference, surely, between a politician and a performer?

WorryBadger · 04/12/2019 11:44

He doesn't keep his political leanings a secret, they knew what they were getting when they booked him.

In the same way that you don't march into a butcher's and throw a wobbly because they don't have any vegan options. Or invite Frankie Boyle to meet your granny. You know what the 'brand' is, if it's not to your taste, you choose a different 'brand'.

Whether you find Nish funny or not is a matter of personal taste. I don't, but many do. I do think he has handled this with good grace, though.

derxa · 04/12/2019 11:46

but you have to be willing to say something to people who might not agree with you and take the consequences of what follows. Was he there to give a lecture on morals and politics?

Patroclus · 04/12/2019 11:46

hahahha yes go see Geoff Norcotts right wing act about ID politics and how giving minorities a chance is ridiculous whilst he endlessly goes on about being 'the only right wing comedian'
