To want to have a relationship with this man?

I play an online game, all fairly time-wasting. But one of the options is to play against others. This generally happens with no contact between you but the game has a chat function.

So yesterday I had a message from someone wanting to start a conversation. He’s an American, currently working over here for the C.I.A. And he’s spent 35 years in the military. Here on top secret business which he’s felt the need to share with me within the confines of the chat functionality of the game.

Is widowed and lonely and never has time for dating, and has never spoken to anyone like me before, I am a breath of fresh air....

So obviously he’s completely genuine. I mean what could possibly be wrong with that? Poor lonely man stuck in the UK on secret business which he isn’t allowed to discuss? Well apart from with me obviously.

So, would IBU to pursue a possible relationship with him?

Next time he chats, google translate your response into Russian and post it, then say oops. Grin

@NarhwalAndAFireExtinguisher - have you ever been tempted to include a shot of Hoskins and Holness? 'Here you go mate, a lovely pair of Bobs for you...'

I did actually know a couple of CIA agents in London many years ago, but they were quite open about it and weren't trying to lovebomb anyone. They were office based and didn't do anything glamorous or exciting, but they were thrilled to have been posted to London. They'd been in far less attractive places.

keepingbees · 04/12/2019 14:18

Yanbu sounds like a catch Grin

Don't forget to give him your bank details if he suddenly needs money for a plane ticket. He'll pay you back of course...

CloudPop · 04/12/2019 14:18

Let's just hope nothing adversely affects the health of his son/daughter/elderly mother that he'd struggle to afford to address!

managedmis · 04/12/2019 14:19

Of course he's from California. They're never from Iowa

Brimful · 04/12/2019 14:26

I'm so excited for you! Can't think of a single thing that could be dodgy. Grin

lifeisgoodagain · 04/12/2019 14:26

I had one of these a few weeks ago though it was through tinder. Told me he was special ops training the U.K. on new specialist machinery but wanted to transfer to the U.K. army... 3rd message he mentioned marriage! Crazy man looking for residency

isseywith4vampirecats · 04/12/2019 14:28

take bets with your real life friends on how long it takes him to ask you for money he sounds like a right catch

Fabpinky · 04/12/2019 14:30

Send him some money immediately

MarianaMoatedGrange · 04/12/2019 14:33

@AllYouGoodGoodPeople

You can't move in Derby without tripping over eligible CIA guys, honest!

PS your username inspired me to listen to that song again. Still love it!

I get so many messages from men the US military who have been widowed. I really think they need to launch an investigation into what is happening to these poor women.

egontoste · 04/12/2019 14:38

He didn't arrive on Air Force One yesterday, did he?

Ah and he’s back. Must have been a slow day in the office. And the English is deteriorating:

“ Do you mind adding my there on your hangout messenger to get to chat some more from there..Really slow on my side here,i get to chat with my son sometimes on my hangout messenger..Really cool or what do you think?, 7 minutes ago”

Yeah, sounds educated enough to be in the C.I.A. Don’t you think? Grin

Wow. Are you sure he’s CIA? With his command of English I would have thought he was a Cambridge don?

StrayWoman · 04/12/2019 17:40

Do encourage him OP.

Boots20 · 04/12/2019 17:44

I've watched a few true crime documentaries that all started with a chat room & the same pick up line

zafferana · 04/12/2019 17:46

What's really tragic is the number of lonely women who fall for these conmen. Well done for wasting his time. No doubt he's making his pathetic attempts to reel you in from Lagos or somewhere.

Zaphodsotherhead · 04/12/2019 22:52

...and I think I win the sweepstake for '3 messages to deteriorating Englilsh standards!' Where's my prize?

Zaphodsotherhead · 05/12/2019 08:19

*English. I can really spell, despite being an MI5 Agent based in Vienna, widowed with one son.

AlternativePerspective · 05/12/2019 08:55

I fear I may have been ghosted. Nothing since last night. I am distraught. I really felt he was the one how do I win him back?
