To think having dessert daily is excessive

When I was growing up, dessert was a common occurance. It was served with lunch at school. At home we would often have dessert in the evening, even if it was just a piece of fruit.

Now I'm a bit older, the idea of it sounds so excessive! Does anyone actually eat dessert more than once a week? Is it possible to stay in-shape/diabetes-free with a daily dessert?

Depends on what the ‘dessert’ is. Most of the junk breakfast foods people go for are glorified desserts

My dh would and often does have a proper sweet dessert. Daily.. Never fruit. Always biscuits, cake, choc, strudel and custard, cookies.
Hes 6ft and a 31 waist so slim and active.
He loves for now and likes to enjoy it. Over the years he's had tests, sugar levels, cholesterol. And always been fine.
OK so that may not be the case in 15 yrs but for now he enjoys it.

I can be either. I can go for days with loads of sweet stuff.. Then a few weeks with no sweet stuff. Mine depends on the mood I'm in.

See when people say dessert I imagine sticky toffee pudding, cream cake, jam roly poly etc. Not a yog, that's not dessert!

Also:
When did it become so acceptable to pick apart other people’s lives like this?

I wonder that too, about a lot of things.

^^

It's not new is it, this? Since t'internet really got going, surely?

I love apple tart or crumble and creamy custard.

When my kids were toddlers my MIL commented that I did not ever give them pudding and I should. Yeah thanks love I'll definitely try that. (Or maybe not to avoid the fucking weight problems your whole family suffer with hmm, dilemmas)

Bluerussian · 05/12/2019 18:54

Children can eat quite a lot without putting on weight, they seem to burn it up. Yes, there are fat kids but generally they put it away with no problems. A pudding doesn't have to be very sweet but it's nice to have one. I've just had a gooseberry fool (very appropriate).

Food police out in force here then! Desserts daily here. We're all skinny, even the dog. Maybe it's about more than just dessert......

I think dessert with every meal is excessive

Instagrrr · 05/12/2019 19:05

Like school meals for example. OHs parents give sweet treats all day long.

Bluntness100 · 05/12/2019 19:13

No, I've never done desserts, and I seldom even do them when having friends over. I do for proper dinner parties only,

But they were a staple at school and grandmothers always did them if we had dinner there, growing up. It's not something I've ever done as an adult.
