WIBU to remove his pyjama pockets?

For context, been married nearly 25 years Dh is not going to change his ways. I have DD1 recently out of hospital and still ill. Dd2 learning disability and bi-polar challenging to say the least. And we are day 4 into having a new puppy. I am knackered.

I put a large load in the washing machine, all darks including the awkward low temperature concert tee shirts with printed images. Checked the pockets for tissues as DH has form for leaving them in pockets. But I missed one. The wash is covered in white fluff. Re washed the whole lot and no better. Washing is hanging on the line in hope that fluff will blow off when dry.

Hate the machine we have now, had lots of problems. It has a new fangled honeycomb drum which is supposed to be kinder to clothes less bobbling but it also means tissue fluff can not drain away.

I am so fed up with the washing. WIBU to cut the pockets off DH pyjamas.

Need to buy a big lint brush to deal with this.

YANBU

But I suggest you get him to do the laundry more often instead. And sneak some tissues in there as pay back.

fortifiedwithtea · 03/12/2019 12:13

Haha DH makes loading the washing machine painful. Asks 20 questions every time. Even worse now we have new bastarding Miele washing machine. The old one was so lovely but after 18 years it just stopped working one day. The replacement is shit.

I have messaged the family on our group chat that I will stage an intervention if tissues are found again.

Yes, cut the pockets out. And thanks for the suggestion. Grin

HariboLecter · 03/12/2019 12:16

Do you have a tumble drier? I've found they're good at removing fluff.

YANBU btw

Perisoire · 03/12/2019 12:17

He makes it painful so that you don’t ask him to do it.

I have never washed my husband’s clothes! He happily does his own washing and ironing.

cantfindname · 03/12/2019 12:21

OP it could have been worse. It could have been a wax crayon. You can never shift that.

TheFaerieQueene · 03/12/2019 12:21

I’m guessing he can operate other items. A car, a computer, a mobile phone, a tv remote control. None of these items are less complicated than a washing machine. He can do his own bloody washing.

TheMobileSiteMadeMeSignup · 03/12/2019 12:26

I hope in all this, you are not the only one dealing with the puppy as well.

UtterlyUnimaginativeUsername · 03/12/2019 12:35

Yes, stop doing his washing.

CunningOperative · 03/12/2019 12:49

DH makes loading the washing machine painful. Asks 20 questions every time

DP used to do this, but unfortunately I'm brilliant at not knowing the answers. 'Um, no sure, why don't you google it' or 'Oh whatever you think is fine' works every time.
Just make sure you remove any of your delicates.

Sprinklemetinsel · 03/12/2019 12:51

Stop doing his washing- he'll learn how to use the machine really fast.

Sprinklemetinsel · 03/12/2019 12:52

Or actually, if that doesn't work in your household, just do his separately to everyone else's. It's actually easier. Give him his own wash basket.

MilkTwoSugarsThanks · 03/12/2019 12:53

What's with this "do his own washing"? Isn't that a waste of water and electricity? Surely you get the maximum load regardless of whose it is?

safariboot · 03/12/2019 12:56

YABU - because you should tell him to do his own bloody washing.

AllYouGoodGoodPeople · 03/12/2019 12:59

It's strategic incompetence. If he makes it all difficult for you then you stop asking him.

Also - tumble dry what you can, that will collect the fluff.

Damntheman · 03/12/2019 13:02

It's not a waste of electricty/water if OP gets a full load out of her own clothing. Making him do it himself might make him actually appreciate what an arse it is when people don't check their pockets before putting clothing in the laundry basket!

DoesntLeftoverTurkeySoupDragOn · 03/12/2019 13:03

Do you have a tumble drier? I've found they're good at removing fluff.

I agree.

Sprinklemetinsel · 03/12/2019 13:04

@MilkTwoSugarsThanks
We all do our own now- and each get full loads. Maybe white one week, colours the next.

It saves so much time- no need to sort dry into people piles, everyone knows where their stuff is. So easy.

coconuttelegraph · 03/12/2019 13:05

Has anyone ever known a woman who found operating a washing machine difficult?

LumpyPillow · 03/12/2019 13:05

He needs to do the washing. Stop letting him be pathetic about it. Would men feign not knowing how to use the latest computer/IT/car technology, no, most would not! It's bullshit pathetic excuses. Washing machines aren't interesting to women, either. It's nothing he can't learn.

Preggosaurus9 · 03/12/2019 13:07

Ahh yes. Rage inducing. 5 years in and mine still does it.

The solution is separate washing baskets. I have a Kallax with 1 box for each person and 2 for bed sheets and towels. 1 box just about equals 1 full wash. Ignore DH box! Make your DH responsible for his own wash including his bloody pjyamas!

drspouse · 03/12/2019 13:09

We do our washing together but each DC has their own wash basket and we just put that on when it's full i.e. washing machine will be full.
He can do his own, simples.

MumW · 03/12/2019 13:36

Washing is hanging on the line in hope that fluff will blow off when dry
When it's dry, pop it in the laundry basket and give it to DH with a roll of sellotape and refuse to do anything for him until it's sorted.

DH makes loading the washing machine painful. Asks 20 questions every time.
That old chestnut! Write him a set of instructions, laminated them and stickmthem on the wall by the washing machine.

OP it could have been worse. It could have been a wax crayon. You can never shift that.
Or false nail glue.😱

MumW · 03/12/2019 13:38

And definitely remove the pockets of his PJs and stitch up the pockets of his suit/jeans/etc whilst you are at it.😉

BillywigSting · 03/12/2019 13:43

Cut the pockets out and sew them into your own pyjamas.

I was furious when I realised that every single pair of dp's pyjamas had good pockets and none of mine had any.

I'm still not over it tbh. I want to put my phone and maybe some snacks in my pyjama pockets like he does.

It's a bloody conspiracy.
