to wonder if flu jab side effects are particularly bad this year?

Had mine a couple of days ago, feeling pretty awful today. I'm pretty sure it's just side effects so hopefully won't last too long, but I'm just wondering if it's been kicking people's butts particularly hard this year? (The flu jab, I mean, not the flu itself.)

I had no side effects at all (except the dull ache at the injection site for a day or so).

SheOfManyNames · 02/12/2019 20:56

I don't care what anybody says about no side effects. I have had the flu jab the last five years (due to a medical condition) and I have always been ill afterwards. Every single time, the next day I have had cold symptoms.
It's just a short lived illness, so I will continue to take it as recommended. Even if it's not a live virus, there is definitely some kind of side effect for me.

plightofthealbatross · 02/12/2019 20:56

No side effects, not even a sore arm this year!

Crunchymum · 02/12/2019 20:59

The nasal spray is live, but is attenuated (weakened). Only those who are severely immunocompromised [chemotherapy patients for example] could be at risk of possible shedding.

Crunchymum · 02/12/2019 21:02

Risk from shedding

ImBrianSosMyWife · 02/12/2019 21:02

this year I had a sore arm but nothing else, I was really ill last year for 48 hours with flu like symptoms.

MissRabbitNeedsAHoliday · 02/12/2019 21:05

No side effects here either, other than a sore arm for a few hours.

glasgowLil · 02/12/2019 21:06

I had terrible indigestion a few hours afterwards and felt a bit under par the next day. If you are a bit ill with something else and then have the flu jab it can make you feel rubbish. Hope you feel better soon. Xx

Salene · 02/12/2019 21:09

I had mine 10 days ago and felt perfectly fine and I didn't even get a sore heavy arm which I was pleased about.

Cryalot2 · 02/12/2019 21:09

None whatsoever. None of us did.
I often get a swollen arm but this year nothing .

AnyFucker · 02/12/2019 21:10

Have never had side effects before

This year within 4 hours of the jab I had aching joints, a sore throat, ear ache and ugghhh lack of appetite. Lasted 24 hours then disappeared.

I don't think it was coincidence, tbh. Would never stop me from getting vaccinated though. Full blown flu is horrendous

LaurieSchafferIsAllBitterNow · 02/12/2019 21:11

slightly sore arm but nothing else

but dh has had a really nasty cold, feverish, shivery, full of bogies and a terrible cough, it's taken him ages to shift it.

and ds2 helpfully brought home some more germs that gave me the cold and I have had no voice for two weeks now...it's just starting to come back today.

HoldMyLobster · 02/12/2019 21:12

My kids have been a bit under the weather this week too OP.

They had their flu shot over a month ago mind you.

Looneytune253 · 02/12/2019 21:12

I have been fine but my dd has been quite poorly since and another little girl I know was very very poorly with it. No idea if it's connected or not but my daughter is usually strong as an ox and is never ever ill.

LBOCS2 · 02/12/2019 21:15

All four of us have had it (2x jabs, 2x nasal sprays) and we haven't had any side effects. DH and I had slightly sore arms for 24hrs afterwards, that's it.

Nonnymum · 02/12/2019 21:18

I didn't have any side effects at all. The pharmacist who did it said its no longer given as a life virus so there shouldn't be any side effects all all.

DramaAlpaca · 02/12/2019 21:19

A sore arm for a couple of days as usual. Then after about three days I felt a bit off-colour, with achy eyes like you get with flu, but it only lasted a day or two.

stripeypillowcase · 02/12/2019 21:21

not worse than usual.
I usually get achy joints a couple of days later.
if you are concerned about side effects report to the yellow card scheme

Winterwoollies · 02/12/2019 21:36

I’m pregnant and I had mine with no side effects. Just a slightly achy arm when I rolled onto it in bed.

RB68 · 02/12/2019 21:38

you don't say which you had there are different ones this yr. THink mine was the quad but no side effects for me - just a sore arm for a couple of days

theSnuffster · 02/12/2019 21:46

The children had their nasal sprays and DD felt rough a couple of days later, high temperature etc. Neither of them have ever had anything more than a runny nose in the past.

Funnyfive · 02/12/2019 22:00

No side effects, not even a sore arm this year!

slinkysaluki · 02/12/2019 22:03

You shouldn't get any side effects its not a live vaccine apparently. I had mine last week at work and all ive had is a lumpy sore arm

dementedpixie · 02/12/2019 22:04

You can still get side effects, it just won't give you the flu

novasglowx · 02/12/2019 22:06

My GP surgery hasn't offered mine so far. I get them every year due to asthma. I'd much rather have a sore and raised bright red itchy arm as per than actual flu. It's concerning that they haven't bothered this year.
