to wonder if flu jab side effects are particularly bad this year?

Had mine a couple of days ago, feeling pretty awful today. I'm pretty sure it's just side effects so hopefully won't last too long, but I'm just wondering if it's been kicking people's butts particularly hard this year? (The flu jab, I mean, not the flu itself.)

Completely zonked, felt knocked out by a train energy-wise the day after. Very sore arm. Moving the arm was painful but nurse just jabbed it into me, no warning. She literally jabbed from a distance lol.

I had it last week and was grand after I think 2 days after?
I did feel achey, so was taking paracetamol every 4 hours for those 2 days.

JennyBlueWren · 02/12/2019 20:33

DS has had D&V and DH asked if it might be caused by the flu vaccine?!? Correlation does not equal causation!

takemetomars · 02/12/2019 20:33

Practice Nurse here.
This year's vaccine has not been particularly troublesome in terms of making people unwell ime.
Any vaccine can have side effects, live or not, so it is perfectly reasonable to feel a little unwell post any jab for 48 hrs or so.
This is the time of year that horrible colds and other cold like viruses circulate so you could be suffering from a virus unrelate to the flu virus. Coincidence probably

Livpool · 02/12/2019 20:33

I had none, not even a sore arm.

DS had the nasal vaccine and hasn't had any side effects either

AndNoneForGretchenWieners · 02/12/2019 20:34

I had a hot and swollen injection site for a few days, and my arm felt heavy. No other symptoms though.

Alrighteo · 02/12/2019 20:35

I had an appointment with a personal trainer the following day (had it last monday) and I could barely drag myself the 20 minute walk to the gym. I had no other symptoms other than absolute lethargy. I had had a good night's sleep, so I wasn't tired from lack of sleep.

Utini · 02/12/2019 20:35

I started feeling a bit unwell in the night, just a bit off and a very slight fever. Then got an awful headache that lasted most of the next day. Still didn't feel quite right the day after.

I had a very similar reaction the only other time I've had the flu jab, so I think maybe I just react badly to it. Everyone else I know who had it has been fine

woodhill · 02/12/2019 20:35

I was very ill after mine

tinyme77 · 02/12/2019 20:36

No issues here.

Greywalls12 · 02/12/2019 20:37

I've had the flu jab every year for the past 5 and this is the first time I've ever had any side effects. My whole body was itchy for about two days pretty soon afterwards and i had awful awful muscle cramps which I've never had before!

coffeeoclock · 02/12/2019 20:38

I didn't have any except the usual aching arm for a few days. (Had mine beginning of Oct).

Nessaofbarry · 02/12/2019 20:39

Oh YANBU! I’ve heard of a few people complaining about feeling awful afterwards

Bunnyfuller · 02/12/2019 20:40

No side effects at all

OoohTheStatsDontLie · 02/12/2019 20:41

It isn't a live vaccine but does cause an immune response and depending on the individual and what else is going on with them (eg if you're fighting off any other virus) then it must affect everyone differently. Last year I had one day of feeling tired and yuk but after a good nigta sleep it had gone so hopefully you'll feel fine tomorrow

Bluetrews25 · 02/12/2019 20:44

Had mine Oct, just tired the following day so deliberately had it the day before a day off in case I was as tired as last year!
Otherwise, all ok.

GreySheep · 02/12/2019 20:45

DD and I both had it. Just a little lethargic until next day. No other effects

FuzzyPigeon · 02/12/2019 20:46

I usually get a very sore arm but was absolutely fine this year

OverthinkingThis · 02/12/2019 20:48

I had a day of feeling tired and achy and had a bit of a temp (all listed on the vaccine leaflet as common side effects). I am pregnant though which may not have helped - normally I don't get any effects at all from the flu jab.

Wowzel · 02/12/2019 20:48

No side effects for me or my DD.

Toddlerteaplease · 02/12/2019 20:49

Have been having the flu jab for years. Never had a single side effect.

Batshittery · 02/12/2019 20:49

Another sore arm here but no side effects. The nurse said it wouldn't make me unwell as it's not a live vaccine.

cannycat20 · 02/12/2019 20:50

Dunno about the flu jab, but the flu itself is utterly rotten this year.

We are just coming to the end of 3 weeks solid of various symptoms in this household. Just as you think you've got rid of the dratted thing it resurfaces. Like a zombie.

For the first time ever I am contemplating having the flu jab. As soon as I'm well enough, ha, ha, ha.

upaladderagain · 02/12/2019 20:51

I've had a jab every year for the past 5, and never any side effects at all. No flu either.

Rhayader · 02/12/2019 20:52

I felt really tired for a day but I am pregnant.
