So this one was going round the pub the other night and I thought it was a lot of fun. And actually quite thought provoking. So... can you guess my age from these 5 facts.

  1. I legally bought cigarettes at 16... and had them in the smoking room at work.
  2. my first concert was a Smash hits tour headlining Sean Maguire and Boyzone
  3. I paid tuition fees at university
  4. my favourite outfit as a pre-teen was from tammy girl
  5. I have no IT qualifications, including GCSEs. I never had a dedicated 'IT' subject on my school timetable.

So what year was I born???

And play along... :)

OP posts:
MissChananderlerbong · 02/12/2019 22:21

1982 - smash hits was amazing! By my time at school we were forced to do IT (born 1985)

PurpleFlower1983 · 02/12/2019 22:23

I vote 1981!

Spacebowlisback · 02/12/2019 22:25

Weirdly I thought 1981 too!

IdblowJonSnow · 02/12/2019 22:33

I was born mid 70s and we did IT?
So I guess you're about 48?

DodgeRainClouds · 02/12/2019 22:37

81

LaMarschallin · 02/12/2019 22:40

@Alsohuman and @TheQueensNose

@Lamarchellin, nobody born in 1980 can remember decimalisation!

Yes, I know.
I thought it was a pretty obvious (albeit not terribly good) joke, implying I thought you were about my age and pretending to guess 39, followed by "mumble54mumble".

54 being the actual age I was suggesting.
Obviously I'm more subtle than I previously realised.

LaMarschallin · 02/12/2019 22:42

Sorry - I meant @TheQueensCousin.

"The Queen's Nose" is a book, I think. Oops.

AliTheMinx · 02/12/2019 22:42

1980 or 1981? I was born in 1978, but was the last year (I think) to not have to pay tuition fees...

Bluerussian · 02/12/2019 23:06

I'm going to have another guess - 1979. You're forty now.

Auldspinster · 02/12/2019 23:07

1980, I was born in 1975 and I was in my very late teens when Sean Maguire was a thing.

LabourHere · 02/12/2019 23:10

1981? (I'd have said earlier, but I didn't pay tuition fees and was born in 79 so....)

Ah... Tammy girl!!!!! Shopping for cassettes in 'Our Price', and getting your holiday snaps developed in boots! Those were the days!! Thanks for memory lane OP!!

wurlycurly · 02/12/2019 23:12

1977? I’m definitely older than you

ActualHornist · 02/12/2019 23:15

I was going to say you’re the same age as me, I was born in 1982 so I was almost right!

Deadsouls · 02/12/2019 23:18

I didn't look at any of the other answers on here;
I will say 1980

LaurieMarlow · 02/12/2019 23:21

1980

CallingOnAvengingAngels · 02/12/2019 23:22

83 because that's my year and these could all be me!

Thestrangestthing · 02/12/2019 23:24

86?

blackteasplease · 02/12/2019 23:35

Somewhere between 1980 and 1984

I was born in 1978 and didn’t pay tuition fees (last year not to I think). We did have IT lessons at school, which were compulsory in the early years of secondary, but we just didn’t do a GCSE in it.

DeriArms · 03/12/2019 00:19

I think I’m the same age as the OP, so 1983

Bluerussian · 03/12/2019 02:55

Come on op, put us out of our misery please!

sashh · 03/12/2019 03:33

OK for a bit of fun try me, one clue, I have not lived my life in the traditional order.

  1. I did Computer Studies / Science at school and for A Level
  2. I paid tuition fees
  3. I remember the Queen's silver jubilee
  4. My first passport was a blue one with a hard cover
