To ask if you ever get blood on your bed sheets? Bed bugs..

We had bed bugs confirmed 18 months ago. Tiny infestation, no bugs seen or evidence found other than blood spots smeared on the sheets, and 2 bugs caught in a trap that you put on the legs of your bed. No bites, we assumed that neither me or DH react (apparently 1/3 of people don't).

Since then I've become very neurotic about checking bed sheets for blood. I check every morning. When we've found blood I have insisted on getting pest control out and washing everything on a hot wash. This has happened 3 times now. We haven't seen other evidence or caught more bugs, despite the traps still being in place.

I have found a blood spot today again. DH thinks it's from scratched acne or (sorry) his outbreak of piles. He thinks I'm being neurotic. I want to believe this but feel triggered!

So MN, do you ever find blood spots on your linen?

occasionally, I sometimes graze a leg my over scratching in my sleep

HouseworkAvoider10 · 02/12/2019 13:12

Very rarely.
Where did the bedbugs come from?

mrsed1987 · 02/12/2019 13:17

Never

MyNameIsArthur · 02/12/2019 13:26

Bed bugs are awful. I had to get the council in to fumigate my house. They were really difficult to get rid of. I had to throw out my bed. I had to wash all clothes, sheets, towels, everything. I slept on the sofa downstairs for 6 months.

I would find blood spots on the bed in the morning but if I got up in the middle of the night would find bed bugs on the bed or even on me. My partner refused to sleep at mine after she was bitten on the nose. I remember waking up to see a bed bug on the pillow.

It was a very disruptive time. Get rid of them asap

Waitrosescheapestvodka · 02/12/2019 13:28

Where did the bedbugs come from?

Probably travelling, DH travels frequently for work.

Never

Shit. I don't know what to do. Pest control were quite arsey last time we called, snd insisted blood alone wasn't conclusive.

You said you caught a couple of bed bugs in a trap though. That should be evidence enough

Waitrosescheapestvodka · 02/12/2019 13:33

That was last year when we did have them

Sorry, OP, but this is grim! And MyNameIsArthur, your post sounds like a horror film Shock.
To answer your question, no I've never had this.

Mauhea · 02/12/2019 13:36

I do! I'm terrible for picking at spots so if I settle down in bed and start to feel the tell-tale itch of a sneaky spot on my back or shoulder I will quite happily blindly claw at it. Then blithely pull the covers around myself without a care like the grubby mare I am! So I do sometimes wake up with little round spots near the tops of the covers from that.

I do get where your coming from though. If I thought they could be caused by creepy crawlies I'd be on edge too.

PenelopeFlintstone · 02/12/2019 13:37

No.

JammieCodger · 02/12/2019 13:37

If there hasn't been anything in the traps then I'd assume that it's scratches. My partner has eczema and there are often blood speckles on the sheets.

SpoonBlender · 02/12/2019 13:37

Very, very occasionally from a spot or cut (not counting sex-on-period mess which is almost always easily differentiated).

But vv occasionally might be once or twice a year, so that would match your frequency. If you're not getting any in the traps, you're probably clear.

ActualHornist · 02/12/2019 13:38

Fairly regularly. I have eczema and scratching my legs often leaves little tiny blood spots.

MyNameIsArthur · 02/12/2019 13:48

Keep a note of where you find the blood spots OP in case they come from acne or piles or whatever. Hopefully they are not bed bug related!

@Dahlietta tell me about it. Was a nightmare

Waitrosescheapestvodka · 02/12/2019 13:49

DH is spotty and picks his spots, as well as the hemorrhoids

sounds like a catch, doesn't he?

We've had pest control spray the place x3 since May for the blood spots. I don't know what to do now. DS is 4 months and the bug anxiety has really dominated his early life Sad

No, bed bugs are my worst nightmare Shock

MyNameIsArthur · 02/12/2019 13:53

So if the blood marks are to do with DH acne and piles, the marks would just be on his side of the bed?

Simkin · 02/12/2019 13:57

It probably isn't bedbugs. It is probably your H's spots or piles (nice). If the bug people have sprayed 3 times in 6 months I'm surprised even you survive in your bed never mind bedbugs!

When your H travels, don't let his bag upstairs. Make sure he uses a soft bag and takes it straight into the kitchen, bungs everything in the wash and then washes the bag on hot. Then you will not get them again. You do the same when you travel - they travel on luggage.

If you're still feeling horrible you can regularly vacuum your mattress (to catch any babies/eggs) but honestly I reckon they are gone.

Waitrosescheapestvodka · 02/12/2019 14:01

We haven't had marks in a while. A month maybe? They do tend to be mostly on DH's side, somtimes mine but I get the odd spot too and scratch in my sleep. During my pregnancy I was on asprin and heparin (blood thinners) so I bled easily, sometimes from injection sites.

No.

Waitrosescheapestvodka · 02/12/2019 14:03

Just sometimes they do seem unexplained.

You have to find a way to deal with this. If even the pest control people are turning down a fee I think you are clear! Have you thought about getting darker sheets??

Simkin · 02/12/2019 14:07

You need to find a way to deal with it, to be blunt. If even the pest control people are turning down a fee you're probably bug free! Have you thought about darker sheets?

Simkin · 02/12/2019 14:08

Oh, sorry for double post.
