AIBU to think Andrew Marr is rude?

Watching AM interviewing Boris this morning, he interrupts, talks over, raises his voice and won't let BJ get a word in edgeways. He's not the only one. Andrew Reid does it, Piers and Susanna do it. Why do they bother inviting guests on if they won't let them speak? AngryShock

I'm watching it too. I'm no fan of Boris but I would like him to finish a sentence before he gets trounced by Marr. It's making me cringe!

MrsMaiselsMuff · 01/12/2019 10:17

Johnson got an easy ride. He refused to be interviewed by Andrew Neil but accepted Marr because he lets him talk shite.

You're unreasonable in criticising Marr for his half hearted attempt in holding Johnson to account.

You're completely unreasonable for calling Boris Johnson "Boris".

Singlenotsingle · 01/12/2019 10:19

I usually call him BJ but that's a bit rude! Blush

It’s a bizarre interview- they’re just shouting at each other

Danglingmod · 01/12/2019 10:31

That was a terrible interview: he didn't get to finish a single sentence!

vivacian · 01/12/2019 10:33

BJ? I wish his mother had swallowed.

What a misogynistic thing to say.

refraction · 01/12/2019 10:34

Boris came across as his usual bumbling lying self.
So I was mainly pleased with Marr.

However agree they all do it to some extent against all politicians.

Lockheart · 01/12/2019 10:35

Because no politician ever answers the bloody question. I'd interrupt them too if they insisted on wandering off down a waffly path of rubbish every time they were asked a simple question.

EnthusiasmIsDisturbed · 01/12/2019 10:37

Andrew Marr is often like this he rightly so gave him a hard time and corrected him at times it wasn’t an easy interview

I prefer to watch Andrew Neil he hides his contempt is less aggressive but allows those who he is interviewing to fuck it up themselves (as we saw with Corbyn the other day) Andrew Marr can not hide his annoyance

Danglingmod · 01/12/2019 10:37

Well, there were several instances where he was explicitly and directly starting to answer the question and Marr still cut him off - not with a repeat of the question like Neil did to Corbyn but with a different question!

cosima1 · 01/12/2019 10:37

It’s AM’s job though and he’s consistent across all parties. You could see the awkwardness when the credit music was playing though, the two sat there in silence and AM shuffling papers Grin

Johnson is a bully and if you give him an inch he’ll just ram home the same soundbites about “20,000 more police”, “JC would do x,y,z”, “Get Brexit done,” I think most people are sick of hearing the same election spin time and time again. It takes a very strong and determined interviewer to cut through it.

Singlenotsingle · 01/12/2019 10:39

Yeah but I don't want to hear what the interviewer wants to say. I want to hear what the politician has got to say, and if he/she doesn't answer the question I'm bright enough to notice.

I am not keen on Andrew Marr. He seemed to make it all about himself and kept constantly interrupting. It ended up as a shouting match.

ChristaMSieland · 01/12/2019 10:41

I haven't seen it yet, but an OP on another thread thinks Boris talked over Marr, rather than the other way around.

cosima1 · 01/12/2019 10:43

I think what got things off on a particularly bad foot was that Johnson refused to accept any responsibility for the fact that the circumstances leading to this most recent terrorist incident have unfolded under the Conservative watch. He just tried to shift it into Labour, so I think AM was right to just talk over him, “You’ve had ten years to change things.”

Lllot5 · 01/12/2019 10:43

Yeah I thought he kept interrupting. I understand to a certain extent, you have to keep politicians focused, but let him attempt to answer the question at least.

LakieLady · 01/12/2019 10:45

he’ll just ram home the same soundbites about “20,000 more police”, “JC would do x,y,z”, “Get Brexit done,” I think most people are sick of hearing the same election spin time and time again

He reminds me of a talking toy, that just repeats the same phrases over and over again.

Trewser · 01/12/2019 10:45

Turned it off after 5 mins

Was like watching two blokes with road rage having a pop at each other on a garage forecourt.

GertrudeCB · 01/12/2019 10:46

I enjoyed it. Showed Boris to be the buffoon he is.

sunglasses123 · 01/12/2019 10:49

I agree that Marr couldn’t hide his annoyance- isn’t he left leading which would explain the shouting. I agree as well when Boris was trying to answer he kept interrupting and I would like to have heard what he was saying. It was like when he accused Pritti Patel of smirking without even looking at her.

Boris won’t do the Neil interview. It’s too close to the election. Neil is far better though as he lets the person speak (and hang themselves). Corbyn was awful but that was because he was clueless on facts, just had his own sound bites.

I don’t think that Interview harmed Boris but it didn’t do much for Marr and his interviewing skills.

John1971 · 01/12/2019 10:49

No wonder the polls are getting closer every time Johnson opens his mouth.
Like so many of the issues raised this morning, Johnson would not answer why he would not face Neill.
Also a complete scandal that Johnson was not quizzed about about not bothering to even turn up for the climate change debate.

PlausibleSuit · 01/12/2019 10:51

If the interviewers just sat back and let politicians answer questions for as long as they wanted, interviews would become party political broadcasts and there are different broadcast rules for those.

I don't like the argumentative nature of it either but it's how these things are done. If you want uninterrupted coverage of politicians' views, read the manifestos.

Trewser · 01/12/2019 10:51

I think Johnson not facing Neill is a complete red herring. These 'interviews'are a waste of time. Corbyn fans saw Boris being a pompous buffoon, Johnson fans saw Andrew Marr being irritating and aggressive. Plus ca change.

QueenOfTheFae · 01/12/2019 10:52

Because no politician ever answers the bloody question

This with fucking bells on

I want to hear what the politician has got to say, and if he/she doesn't answer the question I'm bright enough to notice.
Thats nice for you dear, but we want to hear the answer to the questions asked, not waffle
