We’ve only got a Christmas issue!

The Beverly household is at a loggerhead. There will be no turkey should we not resolve this issue, family members will refuse to visit, the children will demand more expensive gifts and and the pigs will surely shed their blankets.

Which baubles shall we decorate our tree with? The classic set or the more modern set?

Please help us avoid a Christmas disaster.

No!! First time in 5 years that we have replaced our filler baubles. Currently on silver and white but it’s time for a change!

We do buy 2-3 ‘special’ baubles every year but they go on the tree each year.

I just fancy some colour as the filler this year.

Oh no... will mixing not work?

The third set you linked to are my favourite.

IHateBlueLights · 01/12/2019 10:01

Baubles should be red, gold or green. No other colour is acceptable.

bridgetreilly · 01/12/2019 10:01

I mean, you've still got 3 weeks before you need to make this decision by my reckoning. No need to stress about it.

BeverlyLincolnScripts · 01/12/2019 10:04

Eh Bridge?

‘Tis the first of December the tree goes up today in this house and down 1st January.

We play Christmas music whilst we put the tree up. Then watch a Christmas film, then have a cheese board for tea. All while wearing our Christmas hats! 🎄🎄

I don't understand which is which. They both look traditional to me. Confused

BillHadersNewWife · 01/12/2019 10:04

I'm having two trees. One will be the usual collection of glitter and homemade/old family decorations and the other will be red and white/silver. I am happy...I've always wanted a red and white tree....it looks lovely with the green.

BillHadersNewWife · 01/12/2019 10:05

Oh ...I agree the 'classic" ones look cheap. The others are better.

BeverlyLincolnScripts · 01/12/2019 10:05

The red, gold and green are more traditional Christmas colours Hornets the other set at more modern. Was the only way I could think of describing them - seems stating the colour was beyond me Wink

Neither for at least another fortnight.

See, that's where you got me. To me the modern' ones looked like the ones we had when I was a child and the coloured ones look like the ones we got in the 70s.

CatInTheDaytime · 01/12/2019 10:12

The answer would definitely be all of them in this house, plus every random decoration we've ever bought, got free with sainsbury's magazine or made out of salt dough at nursery :o

Tasteful our tree is not. I've got over my angst about it as the kids love it, but I do wistfully pore over pretty glass decorations in John Lewis and dream up my perfect colour scheme! I love pink with green so I prefer your second lot, but in your position I'd defer to the kids.

AllergicToAMop · 01/12/2019 10:14

Oh. I thought the second set with the snowflake was traditional 😂 It would be in my house.
Modern then.

Hornets · 01/12/2019 10:15

Thanks for clearing that up BeverlyLincolnScripts!

It must be my age as I thought the 'modern' ones must be the traditional ones as they reminded me of tree baubles when I was little (in the 1960s).

Either that or I'm completely clueless when it comes to tree bauble fashions. Grin

EveshamMum · 01/12/2019 10:16

This is why I got two trees this year, one with cheapo baubles and random old decorations from the 1980s tied up with bits of wool and one cool modern tree with pastel colours Grin

Nanny0gg · 01/12/2019 10:17

Depends on your overall festive colour scheme.

ButtonMoonLoon · 01/12/2019 10:18

Use the green and gold from the first traditional set and all of the ones from the second set!

BeverlyLincolnScripts · 01/12/2019 10:19

Oh bugger! Maybe everyone has assumed the same - maybe colour describing them would have been better.

Thanks for the input Pineapple, if only there was a magic way to scroll past things that you didn’t agree with/found mundane. When will MNHQ come up with such a function to save these little witty quips that add oh so much to a thread Hmm

Also, now trying to see if we can squeeze a second tree into kitchen/diner. DH has got the measuring tape out so he’s happy as Larry Grin

Definitely the modern ones. We have one of those "snowy" trees with pink and silver decorations this year.

I think "traditional" decorations are dull as dishwater!

Ninkanink · 01/12/2019 10:25

Just for the avoidance of doubt, I preferred the pastel coloured decorations (the modern colourway).

Please don’t do two trees in totally different schemes, the theme should carry through all your decorations, otherwise it just looks wrong! IMHO, of course - I know other people might like a huge mix of stuff.

YetAnotherSpartacus · 01/12/2019 10:32

Thank goodness I'm not the only one! I don't even do Xmess and I am all nostalgic for those lovely decorations which got thrown, but which have fetched a fucking fortune today.

BestOption · 01/12/2019 10:39

I suggest taking DH back to bed & making the most of the rest of your child free time!

Put the tree up, put in the decorations you already have, add new baubles later if you need them - you can do all of that with the baby watching!

Disfordarkchocolate · 01/12/2019 10:47

We have to take turns in this house. One year my tasteful silver, white and ice blue decorations. The next year the nicest ones out of the rest. I have messed this up now by getting some lovely little ceramic ones from Susie Watson that don't fit my tasteful set. This means I will have to buy more.

mindproject · 01/12/2019 10:51

The modern ones.
