To not wipe worktops every day?

Just that, really.

Prompted by the d&v thread. Obviously if I’ve cut meat or esp chicken on them they get wiped with washing up liquid, but I don’t shine em, bleach em, or antibac them ever. They get a rub down with regular washing up liquid when they look dirty. Can be days! Minger?

How often do you wipe them?

Why why WHY all the anti-bac???? It's pointless and bad for us and the environment. I have some Detol in the cupboard that gets used only iif we have a cat / dog / fox poo incident. For everything else, soap and water is fine. Most liquid soap seems to be "anti-bac" these days too. Argh!!!!

@MarshaBradyo

Every night spray with Method, can’t leave it part of closing up the kitchen

You lock your kitchen?

Ha no just a phrase we just say kitchen’s closed to the dc so more mess isn’t made. Eldest doesn’t always do this though.

But I have a routine every night before lights go out and fire door closed (usually open)

Couple of times a day , mostly just with soapy water as use chopping boards to prepare all food stuffs which get washed after each use too. If husband has been cooking I’ll use a cleaning spray as he tends to make a mess

Loads of posters wipe many times per day?

Like those that wash a towel after every use? Hmm Only on MN!

I have 4 big glass chopping boards on my work surface. And I still use a plastic chopping board on top of those, which goes in the dishwasher every day!

I used to clean them daily with dettol antibacterial spray but am trying to reduce plastic so have given it up. I have always used chopping boards which are washed each use. Has anyone found anything which isn't packaged in plastic for this job?

Chemical craziness. No wonder the planet is in trouble. Hmm

I wipe mine down three times a day. After each meal prep.
Just hot water and a cloth.
No meat or fish ever prepared and I always use chopping boards.

I don’t understand the question. Why do you need a special product for this? Take the chopping board to the sink, give it a wipe with the dishcloth and rinse. Job done!

Can anyone who uses anti-bac spray explain why? Is it ignorance? Do think it cleans better? Don’t you understand the current advice? Are you sucked in by marketing?

@delatron I hold my hands up and say I am drawn in by advertisements of certain cleaning products like nips etc , but don’t use lots of cleaning solutions , just Zoflora which I use in bloody everything it’s great stuff !

I was doing my complete wipe down post dinner this evening and i thought of this thread.
Utterly baffling to me to not wipe down surfaces at least once a day. I just love walking in to my kitchen tomorrow knowing it’s not just tidy but actually properly clean.

@Lovemenorca I don't cook every day hence why I don't need to wipe down every day
I have my meals delivered Grin so on a typical day I would have lunch at work which I make there, then come home and heat up a meal with frozen or steam veg. So no mess

@ClientListQueen

Sure you can appreciate that when I was thinking of this thread - I wasn’t thinking of someone who never cooks in their kitchen as they get all their meals delivered.
Not exactly a common scenario!

@Lovemenorca yeah I get that. TBH even if I cook, I don't specifically wipe everything, I just clean any mess as I go
Unless it's raw chicken and then I'm all over the cleaning! As immunocompromised

It is bound to vary depending on each persons situation.
I only cook once a day and most of the mess is confined to the island and cooktop so they are cleaned more often than the area where the phone, tablet, and shopping list sits.
I remember when the kitchen was tiny and the kids were little. I scrubbed it down before and after every meal preparation.

Morning wipedown daily due to cats who know they're not supposed to go up there and don't - when there's anyone watching. So, not quite the intended lesson learned...

We keep our prep area clear though, so it's dead easy to give it a wipearound - just two fruitbowls and a bottle of cooking wine to move - and we use chopping boards anyway. The toaster/breadbin/kettle/etc are on another bit that doesn't get anything like as much cleaning.

At least once a day with Method anti bac or general purpose spray.

And I consider myself quite grubby Grin

On account of this thread I counted how many times the kitchen got wiped yesterday (yes, I am that sad).

Breakfast bar area twice by me after food preparation, kettle area 3 times by me due to spillages, whole kitchen once by my partner after he did the dishes. So 8 wipes in total, 7 just with a damp cloth and one with hot soapy water. That's probably a fairly typical number for us.

I tend to remove cat(s) from kitchen surfaces before food preparation.

My worktop gets wiped down after every use. Each night, it gets a final wipe with hot water and with either eucalyptus or orange essential oil. I don't use bleach, sprays or wipes. Just hot water, ecover dish wash liquid and essential oils.

Ditch zoflora now. That stuff is incredibly toxic for people and the planet.
