To not wipe worktops every day?

Just that, really.

Prompted by the d&v thread. Obviously if I’ve cut meat or esp chicken on them they get wiped with washing up liquid, but I don’t shine em, bleach em, or antibac them ever. They get a rub down with regular washing up liquid when they look dirty. Can be days! Minger?

How often do you wipe them?

Don't they get covered in crumbs and stuff? I do mine a couple of times a day, it takes seconds.

queenqueenqueen · 30/11/2019 22:45

Washing up liquid??? I use an anti back spray

coffeeoclock · 30/11/2019 22:48

@fascinated what is the D&V thread?

I wipe my work tops daily.

elmosducks · 30/11/2019 22:51

What's with all the chemical sprays?
Vinegar. I wipe several times a day. The vinegar smell doesn't linger for very long, and is much cheaper/better for the environment.

KeepYourCup · 30/11/2019 22:52

I do mine once or twice a day because I'm messy and there's usually crumbs/ coffee drips.

I have a spray bottle with diluted fairy liquid which i refill, don't ever use anti-bac or anything fancy. Alot of the time I just dust the crumbs off. We are never ill.

CherryPavlova · 30/11/2019 22:56

Different coloured chopping boards for different foods.
Colour coded cleaning cloths.
Cloths and tea towels laundered daily on hot wash.
Kitchen surfaces wiped after cooking with Milton.
Different mop for bathrooms/lavatories and kitchen.

Never had a food hygiene issue. Most D and V spread is about hand washing.

Sweetchicken · 30/11/2019 22:56

I scrape ours down if it looks particularly unpleasent. Any serious chemicals are likely to do more harm than good i think..

PixieDustt · 30/11/2019 23:05

I don't chop on my worktops but I antibac them every day

Once a week

Not got through the first page but serious? That's rank unless you never use your kitchen to prepare/cook Hmm

I wash down every time I prepare food - surely this is the norm?

ItIsWhatItIsInnit · 30/11/2019 23:06

Once a week probably. I'm not really a clean freak though, CBA. Never get ill.

JassyRadlett · 30/11/2019 23:07

I use an anti back spray

Well you bloody shouldn’t. It is no more effective than ordinary soap and contributes to antimicrobial resistance.

Delatron · 30/11/2019 23:08

Yes why are people still using harmful anti bacterial sprays and bleach on work surfaces? What is your logic? It is well known now that we shouldn’t use these sprays and they cause more harm than good.

You are contributing to the rise in drug resistant bacteria. Soap and hot water is fine.

ItIsWhatItIsInnit · 30/11/2019 23:09

Nope

Span1elsRock · 30/11/2019 23:09

I clean all of them morning and night with a hot cloth, washing up liquid and a tiny bit of bleach. Bloody cat walks all over them, taunting the dogs. Never use anti bacterial shit though, and we always use chopping boards that go through the dishwasher and are kept in drawers.

MamaFlintstone · 30/11/2019 23:10

Why is it rank? I prepare food on chopping boards and plates, and they get washed afterwards. No food is directly prepared on or eaten from the worktops.

schnubbins · 30/11/2019 23:11

I use Fairy Washing Up liquid to clean my whole kitchen diluted in hot water and polished with a cloth. No anti bag at all in my whole house .Worktop surfaces and chopping boards cleaned after every use which could be 9 times a day or once depending on traffic .We are never sick and we haven't had a vomiting bug in the house in about 17 years which was when the kids were small.

Delatron · 30/11/2019 23:12

Bleach is both harmful to you and the environment. It’s like most of you all have been living under a rock. Why use bleach on your work surfaces?

pointythings · 30/11/2019 23:18

I use chopping boards, which get washed between uses with very hot water and dish soap. I sequence what I cut and when - raw meat always last. Countertops get a wipe down with very hot soapy water daily.

No-one in our house has had D&V in the past 10 years or more.

NoSauce · 30/11/2019 23:21

Amazed at some of these replies.

I couldn’t stand living with grubby worktops. I mean how hard is it to wipe round?

Mumtotwo82 · 30/11/2019 23:23

Clean hot soapy water and a drop of bleach in the water. Change cloth every day. I hardly use anti bac but have it in and use it occasionally.

Newbie1999 · 30/11/2019 23:26

I antibac wipe mine several times a day...! Maybe I’m just messier when using the kitchen?!

GuyFawkesDay · 30/11/2019 23:26

Use boards.
Everything gets wiped daily but boards go straight into wash.

But I only prepare one meal a day at home due to work. If I was home a day with a toddler it would be more.

Newbie1999 · 30/11/2019 23:29

I should add I only antibac wipe them because it’s the easiest thing to do IMO - I’m not a clean freak, the 5 second rule is my friend.

ClientListQueen · 30/11/2019 23:31

After cooking but that's about it
I have a giant worktop but only use a small part of it for preparing food, which is done on a chopping board. The cat doesn't go on the worktops and I live alone so there's only me making a mess

AdoraBell · 30/11/2019 23:31

Mine in need of wiping. CBA today or tomorrow, kinder are out to a club tonight so I’ll be up until they get back. Work tops can wait until Monday.
