To ask where I can buy jeans and trousers for tall, fat women with small waists and big bottoms?

I am at the end of my tether in my quest for jeans in the UK. I am tall, about a size 24-26 in bottoms, but with a relatively small waist and a big bottom and big thighs. I cannot find any English shop that does not assume that I will carry most of my weight around my waist. At size 24-26 most jeans gape horribly round my waist and stomach but only just fit around my thighs.

All recommendations gratefully accepted, including, at this stage, tailoring...

Have you tried Evans' curve fit jeans? I have the same problem and they're the only ones that are a decent fit on me.

Its rubbish. I'm slim with a big bottom and small waist, I've not found jeans that fit well for years. Always have a baggy back. For years I wondered who these hunch backs were before realising it was a arse to hip ratio problem. Levi's used to do a range for curvy women, but stopped it about a decade ago.

How small is your waist in comparison to your hips? As that will inform the advice really. Also is your chest / waist flat and relatively small throughout (proper pear) or don you have big breasts and a high waist with a spare tyre in your lower belly?

I had (before pregnancy) a pear shape with 40 inch bust, 28 inch flat waist and 44 inch hips and found Topshop’s size 14 or 16 Joni jean and trousers perfect for when I wanted something snug around my waist. But if I wanted zero stretch ‘authentic’ denim then GAP’s authentic straight was my go to.

It’s more difficult to find stuff that fits pears properly in plus sizes beyond a size 18, but when I was a size 20 (52 inch hips with a 32 inch waist lol) I found the plus size sections at H&M and Asos (then quite new) pretty good for jeans and trousers and that was years ago. Both shops have since expanded their plus size range.

I've just discovered Weekday jeans. I'm tall and they go up to a 34" leg, waist sizes go up in 1" increments which is unusual I think. That said I have a belly so am quite possibly a different shape

There's about 20 inches between my waist and bum, and my boobs are huge too. I don't mind my shape of itself (although I am trying to get some of the sand out of the hourglass) but nowhere seems to cater for this shape at all! At least I am not alone. I haven't been to Evans for ages to be fair - maybe I should give them another shot.

Maybe Weekday is worth a try too

I think probably your best bet is to get some which fit around the thighs and take them to a sewing person (dressmaker? Seamstress? I have no idea what the job title is Blush ) to take them in at the waist.

User12879923378 · 01/12/2019 09:01

Hmm, maybe. I don't know how easy it is to take in jeans round the waist but it is worth a shot.

That’s quite an extreme difference. Tailoring is definitely the answer, but also maybe skirts and dresses instead of jeans? From your description they’d be more flattering on your shape

BuffaloCauliflower · 01/12/2019 09:04
  • more flattering and more easy to fit!
Bonnie555 · 01/12/2019 11:00

A button either side at the waist would cinch it in.

Oysterbabe · 01/12/2019 11:03

I think jeans suit all body shapes. I'd wear dresses instead.

BinkyBaa · 01/12/2019 11:13

I dont think any jeans fit me without a belt.

Cherrysoup · 01/12/2019 11:14

Try Pixie jeans from Simply Be. They are a good fit on my fat legs and come in a tall version.

*don't

I have a small waist relative to my hips and thighs, and love Levi’s 312/314 jeans - they go up to uk size 26. Not the cheapest but they’ve got 30% off at the moment. Might be worth a look

RosieLancs · 01/12/2019 16:00

High waisted jeans from Simply Be, I'm the same size and shape as you and these were a game changer for me.
I'd always avoided high waisted stuff as for some reason I thought they were for skinny ladies but boy was I wrong, absolutely the most comfortable jeans I've ever owned

User12879923378 · 01/12/2019 16:02

That is the conclusion that I had come to, actually, that jeans were a non-starter - they were, to be fair, as annoying to buy when I was a size 14 years ago. But I have an injury that means I am not massive comfortable with showing off my legs these days and long dresses don't really conceal it. But perhaps I just need to remind myself that no one's anything like as interested in my legs as I am anyway Grin

Lots of ideas here to get cracking with though. Thanks all!
