Train passengers refusing to move

Well, I'm really disappointed in the general public. AIBU to be shocked at the hard faced people in our sets refusing to move?

I booked train tickets and reserved seats about three months ago as we are having a special pre Christmas Day out with my two kids and husband.

Get on the train and the seat reservation numbers above the seats (the digital display ones are on the blink), it says from Euston...we are going to Euston, there are people in our seats who are refusing to move.

One said there's plenty of other seats, there are other seats but not in a table which is what i had booked.

We moved on found separate seats (two two's behind each other) I've been back to ask them nicely if they could move as there are no other table seats, this is a special trip etc etc they've flat out refused.
One said someone took Her seat which is why she moved to our seats, I asked why she couldn't have asked for them to move and got some blather about just taking any seat as the displays are not working!

I'm really disappointed by people today, what a bunch of arses. They are sat there knowing it's not their booked seats.
I would never take someone's seat like that.

Train company probably has a Twitter feed and so the social media idea would have got a response. Though as you have contacted the conductor, probably the best option.

JollyHolly30 · 30/11/2019 11:16

Good luck with the conductor!

oohnicevase · 30/11/2019 11:17

Why would you go to Mumsnet before you found someone in charge ? Get an official to make them move , that's what you pay for !! Entitled fuckers !

BillHadersNewWife · 30/11/2019 11:18

It's much nicer to sit at a table with your DC....I hope the ticket person moves them!

maryberryslayers · 30/11/2019 11:18

Usually I would strongly agree but if the displays aren't working properly there's nothing you (or the conductor) can do. If they moved from your seats they could end up in someone else's seat over and over.
It's annoying but it's not like you've been made to stand. Ask to be moved to first class if he can't find you another table seat.

fit4more · 30/11/2019 11:18

Update us!

FrangipaniBlue · 30/11/2019 11:19

There is no reason why they cannot move to the other empty seats except that the CFs want the table.

If they wanted a table they should have reserved one like the OP did.

I would stand over them and tell them they have 2 options - move now, or in 5 minutes when the train guard gets there.

questioningwhy · 30/11/2019 11:19

you need to be firm with the brainless you have to belive and know that you are correct in what you do and say by not backing down you need to priortize yourself personally i would have made it very arkward on her to the point she would have apoligised and regretted it too many people let others get away with things in this world make sure you don't keep being one of them

MyGhastIsFlabbered · 30/11/2019 11:20

That's shit then if they can just arbitrarily decide sear reservations aren't valid. Surely if the trains are busy then it's even more important to reserve seating, especially if it's a family with young children.

HolyGuac · 30/11/2019 11:20

It's not very busy, there are other 2 behind 2 seats which we took when we first got the brush off. The issue I have is, I paid and reserved those seats, the numbers of the seats are printed and are clear, the display that should say reserved to Euston says reserved from Euston. My app shows those seats numbers, on this train as reserved by me. It shouldn't matter if the display is back to front as it's the same journey same seats reserved nothing's changed but the digital display saying from not to.
It's a joke that people can be so rude.
Conductor is very kind and looking for table seats, he didn't bother to speak to the people that have taken our seats,

OP posts:
FrangipaniBlue · 30/11/2019 11:20

and even though the displays aren't working the train staff have details of which seats are unreserved so can direct them there so that the CFs are not them taking someone else's seat.

FoamingAtTheUterus · 30/11/2019 11:21

That's crap. We always give table seats up so families can sit together.

FrangipaniBlue · 30/11/2019 11:22

Conductor is very kind and looking for table seats, he didn't bother to speak to the people that have taken our seats,

Absolutely spineless.

What is it with people who don't like confrontation when it is literally HIS JOB to make sure people have tickets and are in the correct seats!

Grandmi · 30/11/2019 11:23

Speak to the guard !!! People are so rude and ignorant these days!!

ScreamingValenta · 30/11/2019 11:23

The conductor should have had a word with them, even if he can find you another table.

SweetMarmalade · 30/11/2019 11:24

I doubt he’ll find another table seat, they’re usually the first to go as they have charging points.

He should just make them move! CFers!

ScreamingValenta · 30/11/2019 11:25

He could always upgrade the OP to First Class. That would be a result.

kenandbarbie · 30/11/2019 11:25

Conductor is lame. He should have made them move. Lazy arse.

CactusAndCacti · 30/11/2019 11:29

They haven't taken your seats though, the reservation system is wrong/ not been updated so they had no way of knowing they were reserved. They could have moved but I am not sure there is any way of making them.

You've got seats, you're sat together, don't make this into more than it needs to be.

User342109097569098 · 30/11/2019 11:29

The conductor should make the move, press him on this

GorgonzolaTombola · 30/11/2019 11:29

Maybe not possible with kids but I would sit opposite and start going into detail about my terrible bowel problems...while tucking into a five bean wrap.

Dontdisturbmenow · 30/11/2019 11:30

This is a sad picture of our selfish society. People who have no sense of social responsibility, don't care about others as long as they get what they want and can do so with no guilt at all.

I don't fully blame the conductor because sadly, they get such horrendous abuse by such people, they just want, like everyone else, to do their job without being harrassed and abused.

Sadly, the outcome is that such people think that not being reprimanded by authority give right to their attitude, and they will just keep acting like selfish twat in the future, becoming even more abusive when challenged.

Livelovebehappy · 30/11/2019 11:32

You’re very restrained OP. I would have had the red mist, and would have demanded the conductor remove them or threaten them with being thrown off at the next stop. I’ve had this happen on trains where I’ve had someone sat in my booked seat, but fortunately they’ve moved on my first request. Maybe they sensed that I would turn psycho if they didn’t!

ReanimatedSGB · 30/11/2019 11:33

Thing is, they can't be made to move. Neither you nor the conductor can physically drag them from their seats. And if you push it too far, you may end up in trouble yourself, which will wreck the day even more for your DC. It might be worth claiming compensation for the, ooh, £2.50 extra you paid for a reserved seat which you didn't get, I suppose.

Lovemenorca · 30/11/2019 11:33

Yabu
You are annoyed with the “general public”? No. You are annoyed with an inconsiderate couple of people on a train
