Secret Santa CF

Our budget for the office SS is £10. Some people have put a wish list up on the office wall (grabby enough I think) but the person I am buying for has put 3 suggestions of quite specific things, all of which are priced at £15-£20!

AIBU to ignore her request list and just guess at something else to buy that is within budget?

Get them a Bayliss and Harding gift set and something stupid like a blow up zimmer frame to teach the CF a lesson.

managedmis · 29/11/2019 20:34

Kind of takes the joy away tbh

HereBePumpkins · 29/11/2019 20:37

CF’s - I’d be tempted to ignore the list and buy them something I know they’d hate 😀

Rockingdahorse · 29/11/2019 20:38

Get them a Bayliss and Harding gift set

fuck me, might as well shit in their hands and ask them to clap]

Grin
Cloudyyy · 29/11/2019 20:38

Ignore it! Ridiculous

PerkyPomPoms · 29/11/2019 20:40

Totally ignore it and buy them a boots 3:1 set

Jengnr · 29/11/2019 20:41

We did lists at our old office. Not requests for specifics but a guide to the kind of things you like so if you get someone who doesn’t know you at all they have a chance of getting you something you might actually like.

StCharlotte · 29/11/2019 20:42

What does the organiser say? I've organised many Secret Santas and I'd have been on this like a ton of bricks.

livingthegoodlife · 29/11/2019 20:42

£10 in an envelope sounds like the best secret Santa present....

category12 · 29/11/2019 20:45

The wishlist would accidentally go in the bin, I think.

P1nkHeartLovesCake · 29/11/2019 20:45

I think the list is fine as long as they put something within budget. Thing is secret Santa normally ends up being a case of you giving someone something you don’t want which is a waste!

However in regards to your person with the over budget request, yes ignore it! get something within the budget

YouTheCat · 29/11/2019 20:46

How about a nice mug that says 'twat' on the bottom?

Babybel90 · 29/11/2019 20:49

You might scoff at wish list for Secret Santa but I always seem to get picked by people (men) who are only taking part in SS because they don’t want to make a fuss of opting out or have been bullied in to taking part, and pick up their gift from the petrol station on the way in on the day it’s due. Some highlights include an item I’m allergic to (and everyone in the office is well aware I’m allergic to), cheap jewellery that turned my neck green and one of those maths pencil case tins with a ruler and protractor in (literally no use to me whatsoever).

Parttimewasteoftime · 29/11/2019 20:50

Our Secret Santa goes to the local bank so I over buy. Christmas should be about goodwill wish lists how tacky.

calmama · 29/11/2019 20:50

Weird that people can request certain items. I thought you just chose a cheap and cheerful gift suited to the person. I drew a cocky little snot colleague of mine this year so considered buying him a book on basic manners, but ended up finding a novel gift he’ll probably enjoy. It’s also somewhat work-related so might give him some of the skills he lacks in the job (but for some unknown reason believes he has in spades).

YANBU

Celebelly · 29/11/2019 20:50

I think a list is grabby but something like a 'likes and dislikes' thing is fine, especially if people have allergies etc. But a list with things that are all above the budget is blatant CFery.

WhoKnewBeefStew · 29/11/2019 20:52

Get her the worst, most tacky SS gift ever Grin

MistyCloud · 29/11/2019 20:53

@Saltdoughmuncher LOL wot a cheek!

Get her something from Poundland!

73Sunglasslover · 29/11/2019 20:54

Put up your own list. No need to worry about budget so if you fancy a new car, a cruise and a gucci handbag put that on the list.

OctoberLovers · 29/11/2019 20:56

CF indeed

The whole point of secret Santa is a surprise gift

dontalltalkatonce · 29/11/2019 20:57

A tenner in an envelope. Job done. Next year, opt out. SS is always shit. Wasteful AF, too.

youvegottobekidding · 29/11/2019 21:02

I participated in SS last year at work as i've never done it before so decided why not and it was nice, however when asked this year i politely declined. Budget last year was £10 and there were certainly no 'lists' but trying to think of a gift for someone who i barely knew really was just a tiring brain fart and i think sometimes these things can go wrong . Don't be scared to say no is my motto! But yes seeing as you are doing it now, stick to the budget.

thenightsky · 29/11/2019 21:03

When nobody is around, write the price of the items beside them on the list. ie:

moulton brown stuff - £15
posh make mascara - £12

Then write 'NO - choose summat else you chancer'!

SpeckledyHen · 29/11/2019 21:03

I’d give her a box containing a note saying ‘Donated a tenner to xxxxx charity on your behalf ‘

T0tallyFuckedUpFamily · 29/11/2019 21:10

Fuck me! That’s a future bridezilla/bridegroomzilla in the making. And can you imagine the demands when babies start being born?
