BooHaa · 28/11/2019 20:04

DD wants one of these carriages she has seen on YouTube, they cost £1200!! DD is 5 and she fully believes in Santa. How on earth do I distract her from wanting this or manage her expectations???

You say a beautifully powerful, but rarely used word nowadays.

No.

Sandytoesfrecklednose · 29/11/2019 18:26

At our house Santa is the delivery guy of gifts that we pay for. Like myhermes but more reliable. Big gifts Santa invoices us for, the stockings are from him though.

TheSmallClangerWhistlesAgain · 29/11/2019 18:31

You don't even have to discuss it with her or explain anything. Just don't buy it and give her something else she would like.

CinderellasSecrets · 29/11/2019 18:31

I have a similar problem my 4 year old has asked Santa for a rainbow horse - a real one mind you. They are small children asking Santa - who is very real to them - for something that they want. Some of the replies on here are a bit harsh and there are kinder ways to explain to a child why santa can't bring certain things. My excuses have been:
Santa cant bring living animals because they'd get uncomfortable in the sleigh, it would take up too much space in the Sleigh, Santa only brings 1 or 2 small presents and the stocking and that Santa knows how much room we have at home and so won't bring anything that won't fit anyway.

Queenupnorth · 29/11/2019 18:34

My parents told us the stuff in the stocking was from santa. Mum and dad buy the prezzies and santa takes them away to wrap them. Then if we are good we get the presents.

diddl · 29/11/2019 18:37

She'd probably soon get fed up with it as the battery doesn't last long & takes hours to recharge!

I'm hoping that my eyes are deceiving me as the Little Tikes one appears to be half a horse!

woolie34 · 29/11/2019 18:44

I have said before that santa can't make something so expensive as he has to try and. Make something for everyone and that was fine with my child. There's always something else they want, something hopefully will be the ok price wise don't worry too much 😊

QuietCrotchgoblins · 29/11/2019 18:47

We tend to say Santa can bring one present and nothing too big as it won't fit on his sleigh.

If my DD asked for something that expensive I would talk to her about money and what sacarfice would have to be made. E.g. no money for food, clothes or trips swimming etc she's always to the right conclusion e.g something is too expensive rather than us not eating for a month!

JumpiestBat · 29/11/2019 18:48

Too big for the sleigh.

Praguemum · 29/11/2019 19:23

. My son asked for a real dragon. Grin Told him it's too big for Santa's sleigh.

MaybeMaybeNotJ · 29/11/2019 19:32

I just say “let’s wait and see what he brings”

WhenSantaWentQuietlyMad · 29/11/2019 19:55

Get a miniature version.

Amazing how happy she will be I bet.

I don't think they even care about the presents on the day, it's the excitement

WhenSantaWentQuietlyMad · 29/11/2019 19:56

To expand. On the day "Silly santa, he's got the wrong size. Oh but look, the toys can use this one"

Lincolnfield · 29/11/2019 20:35

Old and grumpy but what the hell is a five year old doing looking at YouTube in the first place?

ThisBear · 29/11/2019 20:48

The 'One word. No.' posters must feel very pleased with themselves. Strangely enough, there are ways to tell kids something isn't possible without being harsh about it. Why not find an amicable solution for something that's meant to be fun?

I know someone mentioned the colour in carriage earlier. Sorry if it's been mentioned already, but if you do want to suggest it to your daughter, it's on sale in Hobbycraft just now!

FelicisNox · 29/11/2019 20:49

I like the "Santa brings the presents but mum and dad pay for them and our budget doesn't stretch to that" idea.

Then give her the argos catalogue and tell her to write a more sensible list as a distraction.

She's 5, she has no concept of money.

Andysbestadventure · 29/11/2019 20:50

No one is asking why the fuck a 5yr old has access to youtube? No one? Ok.

Tracey563 · 29/11/2019 20:51

New Christmas song by my friend Apocalypso x Christmas won’t be Christmas without you X here’s hoping all family friends and loved ones make it home for Christmas enjoy and support x

Nanalisa60 · 29/11/2019 20:51

Oh that a lovely carriage darling, but Santa won’t manage to get that in his sleigh because there won’t be enough room for all the other presents for all the other girls and boys.

And that carriage will just take up to much room, so maybe you had better think of another present from Santa.

Remember there is only enough room for one present per child that’s not to massive!

Whoops75 · 29/11/2019 20:53

Tell her that’s not for Children it’s for TV only.

Twinkled · 29/11/2019 21:40

Justontherightsideofnormal · 29/11/2019 21:40

Santa only brings stocking presents. I’m out house that consists of chocolate socks/pants and a few other low cost things (boys now almost adults so car air freshener / memory card that kind of thing). I decided very early on that
1 Santa was not taking credit for what We worked bloody hard to buy
And 2 I wouldn’t want my boys to say to friends Santa brought them a tv/laptop etc when u don’t know what other children got for Christmas.
Worked well for our family and my boys are now 16 and 18.

bluesatinmanolos · 29/11/2019 22:05

Where can I buy an adult-sized one? Grin

MummyofTw0 · 29/11/2019 22:20

In my house; Santa brings the stockings (gifts inside are from him) and he delivers all the presents that everyone else has got.

Everyone has basically given all their presents to FC to wrap and deliver

crosstalk · 29/11/2019 23:08

OP I understand your problems with Trebla - a bit like Emma Thompson flying in to support the Extinction Revolution when there could just have been a big screen or a message. But I was sad to see so much plastic around and unrecyclable wrapping paper. I'm trying to make a major effort again this year. Another non-flyer here.
