Grey hair!!

I am early 40’s. I’ve always had a bit of grey, and always had my hair coloured fairly regularly, on the basis that it’s not too noticeable (some people rock grey hair, but it’s not my personal choice).

Today, I had a blow dry for an event. And the hairdresser has parted it on the other side. Which looked nice until I got in a lift with a mirrored ceiling and realised that IT’S PRACTICALLY FUCKING WHITE.

So, AIBU to ask if you have much grey When did you go noticeably grey? Is early 40’s really early?? Why does the texture of the sodding grey hairs have to become so much less silky and more wiry?

It took me about a month to grow my dye out. My hair grows ridiculously quickly. I haven't dyed my hair for about 7/8 years, I do spend many months per year in another hotter European country. So I think that there's a good bit of sun bleaching going on with my colour

Damn, should have added I'm 61 and have been going grey since I was about 35/40. I agree with Inebriati re the grey pubes

Trenet · 29/11/2019 22:49

You are perfectly normal !
Maybe when I'm older I'll 'embrace ' the grey, but for now I colour my own hair . I feel I take the time to get the colour all the way through my very thick hair , whereas a hairdresser might not. I also follow the rule about going a shade lighter than my natural colour.

My hair is mousy brown with greying at the temples. Not a good colour combination.

I’m at the point now where I want to dye it but don’t want to be locked into expensive salon visits.

Thought I’d a bargain temporary hair dye at the supermarket the other week only to read ‘does not cover greys’ in the fine print when I went to use it Blush

I'm 36 and I've had noticeable grey hair for as long as I can remember, maybe 10 years? I dye it very dark brown/black but then they do show after about 2-3 weeks. I reckon at my hair line I'm about 50% grey.

I'm so sick of dying it but because it's salt and pepper and I've got quite wild hair, I very quickly get the scarecrow look if I don't. I think when I'm 40 I m going to consider the option of cutting it short and growing it out to see the true colour.

My mum is snowy white, as was her mum, so I hope mine would be too.

My hair is classic salt and pepper as my natural colour is dark brown and my grey hair has come through quite bright white. I really like the way it looks now, which is quite similar to this:

www.southernliving.com/fashion-beauty/hairstyles/gray-hair-color-shades?slide=35fa2030-5c84-4db2-bf6a-4563c066f6a7#35fa2030-5c84-4db2-bf6a-4563c066f6a7

I started getting grey hair in my early 40s but didn't really notice until I had quite a short haircut that really showed off the grey and decided against adding dye at that point (I used to like flashes of bright colour in it for fun)

do what feels right for you, doesn't matter what randoms think, it's your hair, your choice. i started going grey at 18, since then i've been all the colours of the rainbow, literally, and currently rocking azure streaks. growing old disgracefully and loving it Smile

I'm 37 and probably about 60% white, 40% nearly black. Started slowly going grey late teens. I dye my hair every 3-4 weeks at home with olia. My skin tone clashes with grey hair - I hate dying my hair but I hate going grey this young more.

My pubic hair is probably 25% white now Confused.

It's very personal and you need to decide what you want to do. There's no right and wrong.

Pinktornado · 30/11/2019 09:40

It’s really interesting how it affects different people. My grandad was still mostly brown haired in his 80s (Not a dye job Grin). My DH has a pretty grey beard but his head hair is mostly brown and he’s in his late 30s. I’m slowly salt and peppering but don’t want to dye until I’ve stopped breastfeeding DS.

Roussette · 30/11/2019 09:46

OP I'd be grateful if I were you... my DD started going grey at 24 or 25. That's hard and she's dark haired too so it's difficult to cope with. And I'm not talking about the odd grey hair, it's quite a lot, especially at the front.

noshoesnoshirt · 30/11/2019 09:46

I started getting noticeable (to me) grey's by 18.

I started getting noticeable grey's (to others) by 21.

I'm now 26, and if I don't get my roots done every 6 weeks or so, I'm very very veryyyy grey. To the point where there's no way to part my hair to cover it!

So yeah, I'm 26 and grey.

BUT I'm okay with it Smile it's only hair!
