I think they should be banned. In my school, we spend about 3 hours a week for 4 weeks rehearsing. The kids hate it and I feel we could spend the time doing something a lot morr fun... or dare I say it, educational. Aibu?

"It is possible for people to enjoy being in a chorus."

Not so much when its every year and the same ones get parts.

"to be excited about their children'sfriendsgetting a big part,"

Not when the kids getting parts are the same ones every year getting parts.

"my family isn't the centre of attention"

Wouldnt know as they've never had the opportunity.

I literally couldn’t even see DD in the chorus last year. What’s the point.
Why should I be excited about it, she also had a miserable time.

DD is in year 6 - I have been watching exactly the same kids getting all the main parts since she was in nursery.
At least when they did Nativity everyone had some part/appeared on stage. There was some thought that parents are turning up and at least want to SEE their children.

There are no other jobs btw - sets, costumes etc. Children just don’t get
involved in that.

I did have a teacher ring me once to tell me that at one Christmas show some of the dialogue was based on DDs poetry which was lovely to know (I wish I had known before). There are ways of including without main part.

Part of the problem is they rush to put these things together so it’s easier to give parts to the obvious children, not helpful as a parent though.

I agree with you OP. I'm a parent though and not a teacher.

I've just spent £8 to get my eldest a shepherds outfit.... he is an innkeeper with one line. He comes home everyday telling me how boring his day has been because he is just sat there watching others. I know it's not all day but the point is my 7yo comes home and complains about it?

DC2 has had a bad cough and earlier this week I popped in to let her teacher know (she was with me, dropping older DC) Teacher offered to take her anyway because they were practicing the Christmas play!!!

It's too much. It's stops being fun.

As a parent, I go and watch them and clap and wave etc but I loathe it. I never keep the photos I take or watch the videos? It's an absolute free for all and the other parents are obsessed with getting the best seats / bringing the extended family. I was 8 months pregnant when eldest was in reception and did his Christmas play. Do you think any fucker offered me a seat (I wasnt even that far back in the queue?? But still didn't get a seat). Head teacher bought me out one in the end. Its awfully managed.

Cant wait until they are over this year.
