Why has this become a thing? Spend twenty-plus quid so everybody can see you're 'doing it for charity', when what you are actually doing is spunking cash on something you will wear for between 1 and 5 days in a year before dumping it in the back of the wardrobe or binning it to buy another one next year?

People who can't afford that twenty pound feel under pressure/disapproval for 'not joining in, it's FOR CHARITY'. Somebody makes a hell of a lot of money for the jumpers and chucks a couple of quid at most to a charity. You've just given them TWO QUID, that's all. The seller still has eighteen quid of your money and you still look like a twat.

If somebody wants to do something for charity, wear your usual jumper, take that twenty quid you would have wasted on some synthetic monstrosity with bells or reindeer ears and buy some food to shove in the collection bins for the local foodbank, don't take fucking photos with all your mates wearing disposable jumpers, thinking you're Really Making a Difference.

I think, if you buy Christmas jumpers for children who will outgrow them, it's OK if can be passed on to younger family; otherwise buy something cheap - not nasty but from a charity shop or look on ebay. Charity shops recycle such things.

I've bought one this year for a child, 7, nearly 8, but it wasn't expensive.

My three Christmas jumpers, none of which have had much wear, will last a long time and I like them.

Morally Abhorrent 😳

It makes much more sense to donate the money you would have spent on a jumper

And to all those who say they wear theirs every year ....they are really really unattractive ( the jumpers that is ) everyone looks silly in them , just donate £20 every year to a charity anyway ( ideally much more then £20 )

Elbeagle · 27/11/2019 17:55

And to all those who say they wear theirs every year ....they are really really unattractive

Of course, some people dress to please themselves and not purely to look attractive to others...

concernedforthefuture · 27/11/2019 17:55

Mine cost a fiver in a charity shop. I've worn it for 4 years now and will continue to do so until it wears out. It's not like they date / go out of fashion. I don't really see the issue (unless you're binning them but surely must people take to a charity shop at least?)

pelirocco123 · 27/11/2019 17:56

Actually its not just Christmas Jumpers implying you donate generously
Race for life , your entrance fee goes on the running cost , organise your own event where every penny goes to the Charity ......thats just one example , support a small charity where your money will make a huge difference

AuntieMarys · 27/11/2019 17:56

I hate them. Cheap nasty acrylic ...and round necks are usually very unflattering.

SlightlyBonkersQFA · 27/11/2019 17:59

My christmas jumpers are lovely. One is maroon, a colour that suits me, and it has a sausage dog on it and the sausage dog has a christmas hat on. It's subtly done because the dog goes around one sid of the waist.

The other is grey with mistletoe. Very inoffensive.

My new one is a flattering shade of pink with a glitter dequin bow. My other two werent razmataz enough. I bet I dress better than 3/4s of the people slagging off xmas jumpers!

Dowser · 27/11/2019 18:02

You could get one of their old jumpers and stitch baubles on it if need be
You don’t have to buy a new jumper

Loyaultemelie · 27/11/2019 18:06

My youngest wears her Christmas jumper almost every day from mid November to her birthday in February (she's 4 and couldn't give a shit she loves it.) She also occasionally wears it ice skating during the year. My eldest wears hers several times a week from mid November to January a jumper will fit for at least 2 years and then is kept for the youngest, they are then passed on to my niece if in good condition.

BuggerOffAndGoodDayToYou · 27/11/2019 18:12

I have three Christmas jumpers. I wear them in rotation for jumper day at school as well as on Christmas Day at home and other things like the Christmas Quiz at the pub, carol singing around the tree on our local green, Christmas drinks parties with friends...... certainly not a waste of money.

mummyrocks1 · 27/11/2019 18:25

I buy the kids one second hand. My dd wears ds that he has grown out of. I then sell them again to be reused.

ysmaem · 27/11/2019 18:32

Only wesr them once? My kids live and breathe christmas jumpers from the 1st of December until boxing day. They love 'em. Charity shops and Facebook marketplace will always have Christmas jumpers for sale from November onwards so you technically dont have to splash the cash on brand new ones. Another tip is to buy a size up for the kids so they'll a few years wear out of them 😊

I might get this one

Well dd has had the same Xmas jumper for 5 years now and it gets worn countless times over the season. It's now been passed to her sister and she has a new one that I picked up in the sale for £2 last January 💁🏼‍♀️
