Just like the title

I don't want my son to grow up in a country where food banks and austerity are the norm.

That's chilling, isn't it? Our children could get used to that level of poverty. Horrifying.

ScreamedAtTheMichelangelo · 26/11/2019 12:52

Labour. I've been Green for most of my adult life but they hold my seat by only a few hundred votes, so I'm holding my nose to keep the Tories out.

Nokiding · 26/11/2019 12:58

I usually vote Green but will vote Labour as its the best means to oppose the current particularly evil batch of Tories.

UpTheLaganInABubble · 26/11/2019 13:05

Alliance or SDLP, I haven't decided yet. I would usually vote Green but they've stepped down in my area in the hopes of keeping the DUP out and getting a Remainer in the seat

mrssunshinexxx · 26/11/2019 13:05

Surely spoiling your ballots won’t change anything, can’t you hold your nose and vote the least bad option to keep the worst option out?
@kikisparks this ☝🏻 thankfully someone else agrees that spoiling ballot papers is a waste of time and resources - just stay at home if you aren't going to vote !

Conservatives

AllesAusLiebe · 26/11/2019 13:06

DH is voting Lib Dem for the first time, father in law has voted Labour since he was first eligible to vote, but this time says he can't possibly support Corbyn as a result of the antisemitism issue. Think his vote is going to the Brexit party or Tories.

There could be a massive shock with this election result in the northeast, where I live.

ClementineIvy · 26/11/2019 13:08

LibDem. Their policies most closely align with my beliefs, despite the fact that I dislike Jo Swinson and her abysmal voting record. I'm in an exceptionally safe Tory seat so it won't make a difference, but Labour stands absolutely no chance around here, so I'd vote LibDem tactically too.

sittingunderthetree · 26/11/2019 13:26

Labour - always have, always will.

I work in mental health, and the damage that the Tories have done to the services (and the infrastructure that perpetuates risk factors for poor mental health), is unforgivable.

Everyone saying their vote isn't worth it or they will spoil it ! I would drag myself on my last legs to vote!

Judemahmoodid · 26/11/2019 16:12

@sittingunderthetree I would too. I take the DC every time to explain the importance of voting. I'd go so far as to say that voting should be obligatory.

Spoiling a vote seems petulant to me. Use your voice to vote for what you believe in. That said, with the current bunch of self-aggrandising fools, it's easy to see why some people feel disillusioned.

Bee1511 · 26/11/2019 16:18

I don’t have any faith in any but I do think the Tories are slowly destroying our country. But in our area it’s between the Tories keeping their seat or the Lib Dem’s buy I want to vote labour. OH tells me I need to vote tactically for the Lib Dem’s to get Tories out which I get but I don’t feel right voting for the Lib Dem’s when I don’t believe in them.

Our local MP, a Tory is actually a great MP. I’m
Not even sure why he’s a Tory as he doesn’t seem to fit the bill but the Tories need to go!

Pan2 · 26/11/2019 16:24

Getting the tories out IS the first priority. Everything else can be attended to after that. We are screwed as a country and individually (unless you are rich) IF they get another term.

thecatsthecats · 26/11/2019 16:40

Agreed.

It's all very well to say 'not in my name', but precious few go down in the history books. What scares political parties is other parties getting their votes.

Not adding yourself to an anonymous, unknowable mass. If you believe that a party would be a disaster for the country, find it in yourself to vote for one of the others.

Stretchoutandwait · 26/11/2019 16:45

Labour for me. Can't understand why any normal person would vote Tory right now.

Stretchoutandwait · 26/11/2019 16:45

By normal, I mean not a millionaire!

ScribblyGum · 26/11/2019 16:50

Labour. I lean more towards the Lib Dems in terms of policy but in my constituency it’s a straight Labour/Tory choice and voting tactically to keep the Tories from claiming the seat is my no 1 priority, however much I might dislike the man at their helm.

Having a good Labour MP makes the decision easier thank goodness.

Both dh and I work for the NHS. The Conservative party are and have been for many years, systematically setting the service up to fail. The people who are suffering and dying as a result of this long term plan are the most vulnerable in our society.
When I go to see an elderly frail patient who has had to lie on the floor for hours with a broken hip because no ambulances were available, or lie on a trolley in a corridor in A&E for hours waiting for a bed, or patients who have been stranded for months in hospital waiting for social services to find a care package to meet their needs so they can go home , ALL of those situations I lay at the feet of Conservative party policy.
To hear Matt the App Hancock or Johnson talking about trusting the Conservatives with the NHS makes me want to scream. The fruits of your labours are there for all to see: suffering and death. That’s not hyperbole, that’s the reality everyday for patients in our healthcare system. We’re a first world country with a NHS that is failing our older people. I imagine it’s just the same in learning disabilities and mental health services.

The Conservatives will never get my vote. If they win I really wonder what our NHS will look like in 5 years time, and how many more people will have suffered with them as government.

KeraStase · 26/11/2019 17:15

Conservative. I’ve always voted Conservative. This time I’d prefer a different option, but it’s the least worst option to protect the interests of me and my family

Frequency · 26/11/2019 17:20

Labour, although I prefer Lib Dem's policies over Labour (along with various other misgivings with Labour). It's a tactical vote to keep the Brexit Party out as they stand a good chance here and the traditional Cons/Lab vote is gonna be split with the Brexit Party and the BNP.

I can't vote conservative. I need the NHS and a strong economy too much and the Cons have wreaked havoc on both since being in power. The economy is the weakest it has been since the global recession.

Sotiredofthislife · 26/11/2019 17:41

Labour strategically but also I like the local candidate who has worked very hard for our area since the last election, despite losing. We are marginal and I hope the swing is enough. I am probably a Green voter by policy but stand no chance here. I am a single parent and a teacher in a deprived area so my priorities are seeing the end of Universal Credit, and more money thrown at education because, frankly, what is happening at the moment is criminal.

Sotiredofthislife · 26/11/2019 17:44

@KeraStase
Just your family? What about others? Do the rest of us not matter? Are you not bothered about education or healthcare?

fedup21 · 26/11/2019 17:57

Conservative. I’ve always voted Conservative. This time I’d prefer a different option, but it’s the least worst option to protect the interests of me and my family

And protecting you and your family is what it’s all about isn’t it?

Confused
Answerthequestion · 26/11/2019 18:02

Conservative because I’m Jewish and I’m not prepared to see what will happen to us under a labour government.

SimonJT · 26/11/2019 18:09

I find it odd that people won’t vote for labour due to anti-semitism, but will vote for the conservatives despite islamophobia, sexism and homophobia being regularly expressed by Johnson.

So islamophobia, sexism and homophobia must be acceptable to those voters otherwise they also wouldn’t vote for conservatives.

TidyDancer · 26/11/2019 18:11

Labour. Tactical vote to try to get the Tory out. I would prefer to vote Green or possibly Lib Dem but it's pointless here. Could never vote for the conservatives. They destroy lives.

ArseDarkly · 26/11/2019 18:13

You're right, that is odd

The right wing billionaire owned meeja aren't reporting on BoJo's et al rampant intolerance of anyone is who is not a wealthy, white male, so therefore they don't care because no-one has spoon fed them their opinion.

I still can't understand why people think the Tories are good for the economy. Child poverty is soaring and homelessness is at a record level but I guess the reason they still believe the tories are good with money is partly to do with the above and partly because tory austerity (which, fwiw, is shrinking the economy) hasn't touched them yet.
