I’m breastfeeding a 3 week old baby and my dinner is a mushroom. AIBU to murder my husband in a hangry rage?!

Literally that.

MIL bought some big mushrooms at the weekend and there was one left, so she put some breadcrumbs and cheese on it for me. A little while ago I fell asleep on the sofa. Woke up and asked DH what he wanted for dinner. He said he’d just had his, he cooked/ate it while I was asleep. He made himself a bowl of pasta. I asked if there was any left for me? “No, I didn’t make you any. I thought you were having that mushroom.”

So... my dinner is a mushroom.

This mushroom isn’t the size of a plate or anything. It’s a big mushroom, but it’s still just a fucking mushroom.

The people who’ve voted YABU should be pelted today death by stuffed mushrooms.

OP, YANBU, what a thoughtless arsehole. You’re feeding your shared child and even if you weren’t you produced an entire human being you’d grown from your body three weeks ago. That’s a lot of hard work you’ve put in. The fucking least he can do is provide you with hearty nutritious filling food with a smile on his face and offers of a starchy pudding to follow. Have serious words.

When DD was that age DH was leaving cereal bars on any available surface so wherever I landed to feed I could have a snack and churning out mega dishes every evening, including when he was nearly laid flat by a chest infection and sinusitis.

Hope he bucks his ideas up smartish.

Congrats on your lovely new baby Smile

Sorry op, but I almost choked laughing on my drink when I read your post.
“I thought you were having that mushroom” 😂

Well, enjoy!!

53rdWay · 25/11/2019 20:26

Do not bury him under the patio. He’s full of valuable protein.

Fatted · 25/11/2019 20:26

Did somebody say just eat?!

Iloveacurry · 25/11/2019 20:27

Oh my, he needs to get you a take away!

NatashaRomanov · 25/11/2019 20:29

From one breast-feeding Mum to another, that's a fucking snack!
Especially at 3 weeks when you are still establishing your supply. I was ravenous, and continuously thirsty at that point.

Your husband is being an idiot, and needs to be told that you need more food.

BillHadersNewWife · 25/11/2019 20:30

I thought you were having that mushroom.

I want to paint a picture based on that sentence. It will have you, crazy-eyed squeezing the stem of the mushroom as though it were your DH's neck. He will be in the background, unaware and watching TV with his feet up.

Whatnowagnes · 25/11/2019 20:30

Order pizza. Just for you.

Makinganewthinghappen · 25/11/2019 20:31

I would have eaten the mushroom while waiting for my massive takeaway to arrive.

JasonPollack · 25/11/2019 20:32

Kill him and eat him, its only fair.

poorstudent1010 · 25/11/2019 20:32

That plate looks tragic.

Deliveroo it is.

TheGreatElephantChase · 25/11/2019 20:33

I'm guessing that this thread is supposed to be lighthearted? But it actually isn't funny.

Is he always so selfish? Even if it was lack of thought, surely he'd have gone and made you some pasta once he realised.

plightofthealbatross · 25/11/2019 20:34

What an arse.

You've just had a baby and you're breastfeeding ... does he think you can do that without proper food?!?

i take it back. HE's a dick.

JohnnyMcGrathSaysFuckOff · 25/11/2019 20:34

Get him to eat the mushroom.

Then eat him.

You get his pasta, the mushroom, the wrap, and whatever nutrients he contains.

👍

Purpleartichoke · 25/11/2019 20:35

I’m honestly kind of amazed that humans haven’t evolved a strategy similar to the praying mantis. Those first few weeks are really tough because no one who hasn’t experienced can really understand how all encompassing breastfeeding and caring for a newborn while simultaneously going through postpartum recovery really is.

WizardOfAus · 25/11/2019 20:36

Gross. Good luck eating that. 🤮
Send DH out for takeaway.

moveitorloseit · 25/11/2019 20:37

Can't believe he actually thought you would just eat that mushroom on its own ??? ShockShock that's crazy!

XXcstatic · 25/11/2019 20:38

I'm guessing that this thread is supposed to be lighthearted? But it actually isn't funny

Agree. If he really did believe you were having the mushroom, he should have been straight back in the kitchen to sort you out some pasta (or whatever you fancy) as soon as he realised his mistake. If he hasn't done that, he is a selfish twat.

SleepingStandingUp · 25/11/2019 20:39

Seriously tho op is he normally a self centred arse who doesn't actually give a fuck?

TuttiCutie · 25/11/2019 20:40

You're clearly trying to brush this off as one of those funny threads, but your DH is coming off as a total twat.

Callthemidwifeplease · 25/11/2019 20:41

Get a pizza delivered and dont give him any xxx

BrendasUmbrella · 25/11/2019 20:41

GET A TAKEAWAY! It will be a handy expensive reminder to your DH that women who are recovering from childbirth and feeding a new human being need to eat properly!

Aridane · 25/11/2019 20:41

YABVU for using the word hangry

Raspberrytruffle · 25/11/2019 20:43

How complicated would it be for him to put some away on a plate for you incase you wanted it? Unless hes a greedy twat and will eat a full pan of pasta. He at the very least owes you a takeaway and a foot rub

HavelockVetinari · 25/11/2019 20:43

@Glenthebattleostrich yep, I was there too, we were having dinner with OP, she definitely couldn't have done him in.
