To ask what you think is worth spending a bit extra on?

And what you think isn’t?
Can be anything - food, clothes, holidays etc etc?

For example, I’ve just bought some socks that are a cashmere blend and wonder how I could now ever go back to boring old cotton.
Likewise, I usually spend a bit more on coffee for good quality. But some food items such as tinned pulses - I don’t think it matters buying cheap.

What items do you spend a little more on because you think they’re worth it? And which do you buy the cheapest of because you can’t notice any difference?

Thanks for taking part in a mundane thread Smile

Armani foundation, expensive but have never found a better one for my pale, dry, sensitive skin.

Snag tights.

@BarbedBloom I keep getting ads for those tights on my Facebook but had dismissed them as so many FB ads are for junk. Are they genuinely good? I am short and a bit chubby - size 14 so not massive but fatter than ideal and certainly fatter than standard tight manufacturers think I should be - so have more or less given up wearing skirts and dresses as I have no comfy tights. Do you think it's worth me trying them?

BarbedBloom · 27/11/2019 16:13

@elbowedout I was also sceptical re the adverts to be honest and the cheap skate in me baulked at paying £6 for tights, but a friend recommended them so I bought a pair. I am 6ft 2 so can never find comfortable tights and it has been brilliant for me. They don't roll down or rub, have the thickest type in black and got a second pair of mustard. I would never go back to my cheap tights now.

Elbowedout · 27/11/2019 17:31

Thanks Barbed I think I will give them a try.

NemophilistRebel · 27/11/2019 18:11

Would the snag tights be good for maternity wear too?

Shoes - although I know the brands I like and often wait for sales or buy "worn once" from ebay.

Am curently coveting a Dyson airwrap, and trying to justify the cost. Am vey particular about my hair, although I've found a brand that really suits it, which is mid range pricewise.
I DO really need a dyson airwrap though!

Buying cheaply - no big supermarkets near me, so I often buy reduced food in the evening rather than doing large a large weekly shop.
Make up - poundland do an amazing eyeliner, and Lidl's BB cream really suits my skin.
Every eighteen months or so I'll buy a selection of makeup from an online discounter - a few things I 'need' plus a few random 'treats' to make it up to the amount for free delivery.

Kitchen roll, only but Regina now, lasts for ages 🙈

Things I cannot trade in:

Teabags
Lush bath bombs
Hotel chocolate/Godiva

Everything else is negotiable.

I'm about to try bamboo socks as suggested by a work colleague.

ChaiNashta · 27/11/2019 22:32

Make up (rarely wear any though)

Eye Cream (you can get away with cheap moisturiser for the rest)

Boots. My Doc Martens have lasted 5 years and still going strong (despite the near constant wear), if a little scuffed. My DH is really hard on shoes and destroys nearly any pair within a year (crap quality ones don't last a month), so it's got to be Timberlands for him.

Toilet paper. You just wind up using more of the cheap stuff.

Furniture. I don't want to replace things, so we go for more expensive stuff that is built to last.

KTMP16 · 18/12/2019 14:59

My partner and I must always have warbies bread and douwe egberts coffee.....other than that we are happy with shops own brand for everything else!

Eggs. Hens are treated appallingly so it's worth investing in high welfare if at all possible.

Also fats / oils, so important for hormonal balance etc.

My dear dad died many years ago but he always said you should spend money on your bed and your shoes as you are always in one or the other.
