To ask what you think is worth spending a bit extra on?

And what you think isn’t?
Can be anything - food, clothes, holidays etc etc?

For example, I’ve just bought some socks that are a cashmere blend and wonder how I could now ever go back to boring old cotton.
Likewise, I usually spend a bit more on coffee for good quality. But some food items such as tinned pulses - I don’t think it matters buying cheap.

What items do you spend a little more on because you think they’re worth it? And which do you buy the cheapest of because you can’t notice any difference?

Thanks for taking part in a mundane thread Smile

Accessories such as bags, watches, purses

Shoes - I tend to become obsessed with one pair of shoes and wear them for a whole year before re discovering my other pairs..then I buy another pair and the cycle starts all over again Grin

Good quality/free range/organic meat

Makeup and facial creams - love dior and Charlotte tilbury! I don’t bother getting eyebrows or eyelashes done professionally so justify spending abit more on products Smile

Just realised most of these are very materialistic..woops! Blush

rookiemere · 26/11/2019 22:06

Berocca - own brand cheapo versions are awful
Sebastian potion 9 for hair - but buy it online so cheaper than hairdressers
Bras - but have found one m&s bra that fits really well so must stock up on that
Try to stay 4* on holiday but will fly with whoever is cheap

thanks for recommendations of The Ordinary skin care am going to try that out

naturewatch.org/blog/article/the-truth-behind-the-dirty-dozen-household-products
Just thought I'd share with you the fact that some of the products that have been mentioned are not cruelty free.....

Back21970 · 26/11/2019 23:30

Notice that foundation is mentioned frequently, anyone recommend a good one with matching concealer worth splurging on?

Made a few expensive mistakes in the past and reluctant to splash out.

Namechangeforthegamechange · 27/11/2019 00:12

Cereal! The cheap stuff is just nasty!!

keffie12 · 27/11/2019 01:01

Make up and skincare. I don't skimp on it and buy quality. I wont pay premium for the sake of it mind.

However there is a few brands and products I specifically like and I wont change and go cheaper

Some products of food brands I will pay more for too. I still love a good bargain though

keffie12 · 27/11/2019 01:04

Bloodybridget · 27/11/2019 01:12

Pasta, ham, bread. And I always eat butter, no horrible spreads, but buy the cheapest I can find!

Elbowedout · 27/11/2019 01:29

Bikes, though I don't currently have enough money to buy the ones I would really like. But we have some that are quite nice. One day....

Premier seating at the Odeon. For a pound more you get the best seats in the cinema. Worth every penny.

Swisskit · 27/11/2019 09:08

Matches. I love the tiny luxury of a box of Swan Vestas over cheapo ones. Grin

Linguaphile · 27/11/2019 09:37
  • Clothes/handbags/shoes. A few quality pieces (vs a pile of cheap fast fashion) will last longer, look better, and be better for the environment.
  • Haircuts. A good haircut can make everything look more put together. A bad haircut haunts you for months.
Notmyusername123 · 27/11/2019 10:59

Splurge:

We don't go often but we always pay more to jump the queues at Legoland, Chessington etc.

We also pay for premium parking at the theme parks. Because we're lazy.

Save: Lidl and Aldi's washing up liquid is just fine for me!

ColdTattyWaitingForSummer · 27/11/2019 11:35

@Back21970 I swear by Clinique skincare products. I use both their under eye concealer (similar to touche eclat) and foundation. I got away with cheap tinted moisturiser in my teens / twenties, but post 30 I think a decent foundation is money well spent.
