To ask what you’d leave out of Christmas dinner if you didn’t have to consider others?

For me, it would be most of the veg.

I was grateful to be invited to a family member’s Christmas dinner last year, but with 4 different stuffings and endless veg, I was a bit bewildered! Fabulous, but so much work for the hosts. The company was fantastic, I wouldn’t have cared if we’d had toast!

I think I’d stick to chicken, not turkey, one stuffing and roasties. Possibly green beans, because they’re delicious with gravy. 🍴

All of it. I'd settle for nice cheese and biscuits with some decent wine. Sorted

Graphista · 24/11/2019 20:31

Veggie so obviously do without the meat, apart from that sprouts! Hate them!

I can pretty much suit myself these days so...

Quorn fillets, quorn chipolatas, roast glazed parsnips & carrots, roast potatoes, Yorkshire pud, stuffing, gravy, cranberry sauce, red cabbage - yum!

AllergicToAMop · 24/11/2019 20:31

Why do people get turkey? It looks like the most commonly hated meat😂

notthenormal · 24/11/2019 20:31

Nothing, the whole point of Xmas dinner is excess and multiple choice = feast

macaroniandpizza · 24/11/2019 20:32

I love xmas dinner be it chicken, gammon or turkey. Not keen on prawn cocktail or melon for starters but i have soup instead. Dmum doesnt do bread sauces etc but does have a wee jar of cranberry jelly if anyone wants some. And lots of gravy Grin

willowmelangell · 24/11/2019 20:33

I'm smiling @AllergicToAMop from now on I shall refer only to pork in a duvetGrin

feelingverylazytoday · 24/11/2019 20:34

All of it. I don't cook Christmas dinner any more, we just have a buffet with party food.

HowDoYouLikeThoseSuedeApples · 24/11/2019 20:35

All of it except for a huge plate of pigs in blankets and personal pots of an Aunt’s homemade luxurious bread sauce to dip them in.

BerwickLad · 24/11/2019 20:36

@Bouncebacker I'm with you and love it all. Looking at the table with all of the elaborate veggies, sauces and stuffings makes me really happy. Yes, it's a lot of work but it looks like a proper feast when you're done.

lilgreen · 24/11/2019 20:36

I’d be happy with just turkey, bread sauce and cranberry.Grin

lilgreen · 24/11/2019 20:37

I love turkey. People cook it for hours and hours then complain it’s dry!Hmm

misspiggy19 · 24/11/2019 20:38

Roast dinner- not a big fan

notso · 24/11/2019 20:39

None of the main. I've perfected my ideal combination and I love all of it every single mouthful.
The pudding though I could easily leave, just chuck me a few Bendicks bittermints and a Baileys.

BatleyTownswomensGuild · 24/11/2019 20:39

Sprouts. Disgusting things

To be honest I'd just be happy with pigs in blankets....

AnnaMagnani · 24/11/2019 20:40

I cook it so I only cook the stuff I like. Plus about 6 token sprouts because it's Christmas.

No turkey.
No gravy.
No horrible English stuffing like Paxo.

Anyone who wants anything else is welcome to volunteer to cook - so far there have been zero volunteers.

lilgreen · 24/11/2019 20:45

I like the traditional Christmas dinner so turkey, homemade stuffing, red cabbage, cranberry sauce, bread sauce , roasted parsnips and sprouts. I make the sauces and stuffing on Christmas Eve to get me in the mood and save time on 25th. Since using the Nigella method, the turkey cooks in 2.5 hrs so it’s juicy not dry.
I make a pudding or teens do but we are rarely ready for it until the evening.

RaininSummer · 24/11/2019 20:49

All of a traditional Christmas roast dinner it I think. I would rather have a table full of Curries, rice and all the fixings.

PlasticPatty · 24/11/2019 20:52

Gravy. Disgusting stuff. Never have it on my plate. Sauces, similarly.

Any pig-sourced product.

ironickname · 24/11/2019 20:59

Pugs in blankets are just too extra and unnecessary.

BrokenWing · 24/11/2019 21:01

Family (whatever sibling is doing it) is by standard:

Full Turkey
Huge Gammon
Homemade Roast potatoes
Mash potatoes
Carrot
Brussels sprouts
Peas
Roast parsnips
Pigs in blankets
Sausage meat
Sage n onion Stuffing
Another stuffing
Homemade Cranberry sauce
Homemade Bread sauce
Homemade Gravy

When they come to me they get

Turkey (m&s boneless crown)
Roast potatoes (aunt bessie)
Carrots
Brussels sprouts
Pigs in blankets
Stuffing
Cranberry sauce (from a jar)
Gravy (bistro turkey)

We have a great time wherever we are and no one has ever mentioned I'm a crap cook .

AllergicToAMop · 24/11/2019 21:02

@willowmelangell 😁
I love it!
Kill a pig, make a sausage out of it and then wrap it in its own flesh and call it a fucking blanket for the "awww"😂
Every year I wonder who the hell came up with it and how many people did they have chained in a basement 😂
So tasty

NumbersStation · 24/11/2019 21:05

People.

Outsomnia · 24/11/2019 21:09

Where is my onesie. I need to get away from all this faff about festive food right now!

Merry Christmas anyway even though I detest it with every fibre of my being.

Mum2jenny · 24/11/2019 21:09

Sausagemeat in perfectly good Paxo? Ick

No, no, separate! Literally sausage meat mixed with sweet corn and baked. Mum used to do it for my brother, I think my family member was being nostalgic.
