Aibu about squirty cream?

Cream tea in a cafe yesterday, served Anchor squirty cream.
I was really surprised that any modern day coffee/tea place would think it acceptable to serve this stuff?

Can you still get actual tinned (non squirty) cream? Used to love it as a child.

iklboo · 24/11/2019 11:10

I went to a corner shop near my mum's to get cream for a recipe. Asked the lady behind the counter if they had any.

'Yes love. We've got squirty and Carnation' Grin

Clotted cream is the only acceptable thing with scones. Squirty cream is vile.

mrsbyers · 24/11/2019 11:30

Lots of places out double cream through a siphon now to save having to whip lots of cream , are you sure it was squirt cream vs whipped cream ? Did it disappear into nothing by the time you ate your scones ?

Knittedfairies · 24/11/2019 11:37

I had a cream tea in a garden centre recently. Not only did the scone arrive with squirty cream, but also with enough baking powder in it to make my fillings fizzle. It looked good though...

Squirty cream on a scone in a cafe is absolutely disgusting. They are skinflint swines. It’s ok in a hot choc with trimmings but in a cafe it’s and on food as opposed to drink it’s a big ffs! I hope you left online feedback to warn others.

I’d have sent it back in disgust. I always ask if it’s pouring cream, squirty cream or double cream if I’m having choc fudge cake or something that comes with cream. If it’s squirty I don’t get my hopes up.

PandasandRabbit · 24/11/2019 12:27

YANBU, that's totally unacceptable. I was going to agree with PPs suggesting 101 but I thinking about it you may need to go in order another one and quickly dial 999 so they can be caught in the act otherwise police maybe unable to act Grin

Toddlerteaplease · 24/11/2019 12:28

Prefer squirty cream to real cream!

EvenPhilip · 24/11/2019 13:00

Well I had to ask as I have Cornish parentage so Rodda's is in my blood as it were, but obviously I am not completely unreasonable so will tolerate some whipped up double if slumming it.
Squirty though is on another level, I may have visibly flinched upon presentation. I am pleased I'm not on my own, some of these responses have made me laugh. Grin

@EvenPhilip Jam or squirty cream first?

EvenPhilip · 24/11/2019 13:11

@iklboo I dare not reply to your question as thus far this thread has been largely free of the usual aibu shenanigans.
I have no desire to rock the boat.Grin

DS has this sussed. He puts cream on one side, jam on the other, squishes them together and eats it sideways Grin

I'd have to day though, I don't go for sweet scones, I'd order a cheese one Grin
