Aibu about squirty cream?

EvenPhilip · 24/11/2019 09:15

Cream tea in a cafe yesterday, served Anchor squirty cream.
I was really surprised that any modern day coffee/tea place would think it acceptable to serve this stuff?

Yanbu. I used to work in a cafe that served this muck. You could upgrade to clotted though, and the cream was fresh in a proper canister at least not anchor.

tellmewhenthespaceshiplandscoz · 24/11/2019 09:38

Posters who don't find this abomination a problem obviously frequent cheap and nasty cream tea establishments Grin

calamityjam · 24/11/2019 09:40

I own a cafe. I only use squirty cream on hot chocs or other hot drinks. We use clotted on our afternoon teas, and scones. Squirty cream on cakes is just cheap and nasty

mmbopdooo · 24/11/2019 09:42

Should be clotted with scones. Squirt my just screams kids party treat

mmbopdooo · 24/11/2019 09:43

Squirty rather

Insomniacscientist · 24/11/2019 09:43

In a hot chocolate fine, on a scone hell no

ferrier · 24/11/2019 09:43

Not being unreasonable. No way should any establishment use squirty cream. Synthetic yucky stuff.

PowerHooper · 24/11/2019 09:46

The Good Housekeeping Christmas recipe booklet has a recipe for Christmas Day Trifle that consists of bought Madeira cake covered in ready made custard covered with 'rosettes' of squirts cream. It does warn, solemnly, that aerosol cream collapses quickly so you might need to sprint to the table with it.

PowerHooper · 24/11/2019 09:46

Squirty cream. Not squirts cream. Boak.

WaterSheep · 24/11/2019 09:47

The only unreasonable part of your post, is that you didn't mention if you sent it back for a refund.

If you sent it back then YANBU

If you accepted that abomination without complaint YABVVVU

FlamingoAndJohn · 24/11/2019 09:48

This is very wrong. Even proper cream in a canister rather than anchor cream would be very wrong.

If clotted cream is unavailable stop serving cream tea then whipped double will do at a push.

bellabasset · 24/11/2019 09:52

The joy of a cream tea is being able to put jam on your scone and then add a dollop of Rodda's clotted cream. Was this served in a pot or already on the scone.

I can understand the appeal of squirty cream but for me if it's a pie, crumble or mince pie it's Kelly's clotted cream ice-cream. My hot chocolate is made with a spoonful of cocoa powder added to a good hot chocolate powder, mix with hot water, drop a couple of squares of chocolate into it, then top with frothed full fat milk, top with marshmallows and grated chocolate and serve with a flake. It's a treat and kids love it.

Lllot5 · 24/11/2019 09:54

Went to visit my mum yesterday she served mince pies with squirty cream! Could only manage three! Shocking.

CatUnderTheStairs · 24/11/2019 10:02

Squirty cream from anchor is all wrong on anything. I won’t have hot with whipped cream in a cafe because it’ll be squirt6 cream. I also dislike elmlea, fake cream.

NanooCov · 24/11/2019 10:09

Not saying this is right (because obviously it should be clotted cream on scones) but anchor do actually do real cream in a can, not only the "fake" cream. I discovered it when I had gestational diabetes and had to balance any carbs I ate with fats.

CAG12 · 24/11/2019 10:14

Squirty cream is fake and disgusting regardless of what its paired with

Evilmorty · 24/11/2019 10:15

How upsetting. I wouldn’t go back.

Evilmorty · 24/11/2019 10:17

I also dislike elmlea, fake cream.

DH and I had a huge row when I was pregnant and craving a scone with cream and he brought me back this bollox. I had written him a list and everything!!!

tellmewhenthespaceshiplandscoz · 24/11/2019 10:18

Anyone else's phone struggling to not autocorrect "squirty"? Grin

P1nkHeartLovesCake · 24/11/2019 10:22

Cream tea has to have clotted cream! Anything else is unacceptable

Squirty cream indeed, I feel sorry for your scones quite frankly Sad

Anyone that thinks squirty cream is Ok with a cream tea has obviously never had a decent cream tea

BonnieBrooke · 24/11/2019 10:31

Name and Shame I say !!!

ChazsBrilliantAttitude · 24/11/2019 10:33

Squirty cream is acceptable for waffles with Nutella for the DC especially as they go for coverage and dramatic effect rather than refinement.

babycatcher411 · 24/11/2019 10:35

Absolutely agree with @tellmewhenthespaceshiplandscoz
Squirty Cream is best served straight into the mouth when the kids aren’t looking.
It’s the stuff of gods.

But with cream tea, absolutely had to be clotted cream. No excuses.
Report them, it’s an abomination

tellmewhenthespaceshiplandscoz · 24/11/2019 10:57

In fact OP, this is a case where you should log it with 101.

Mysterian · 24/11/2019 11:04

I had a cream tea with whipped double cream which was bad enough. I can only imagine what you're going through OP. Flowers
