It's a tight loop and "mottled" colour iyswim.
No pets, older children. No shoes but dh often forgets 😡
I love the look and feel of it but is it too impractical?

I have 80/20 through most of my house but have a synthetic carpet in the sofa area of my kitchen as the previous 80/20 became damaged from all the cleaning. I love the synthetic stuff - it’s so hard wearing and bleachable, and so much cheaper than the wool versions, and very similar in looks.
Talking of moths, Carpet Beetles are a real problem. They come in from outside in late spring, and look like very small ladybirds but with yellow stripes on a brown body. They leave larvae (Known as Woolly Bears) which eat anything with wool in it - so will devour clothing as well as carpets. I’d never seen or heard of them until a few years ago and kept seeing these small ‘ladybirds’ on my window ledges. I ended up calling pest control in and having the house sprayed. If I remember rightly it cost £800 plus. A waste of money in all honesty. I’m just hyper vigilant now, I keep an eye out during late spring and make sure I kill any I see - they seem to head across my carpet and are often found laying along the edges by the skirting boards. I am meticulous in vacuuming the edges to ensure I remove as many as possible. I’ve never suffered carpet damage but a friend of mine did when she had them. I often wonder how many people think they’ve got moths but have actually got carpet beetles? The British Pest Control Assoc. say carpet beetles have now outstripped the clothes moth as the major British textile pest according to an article I read that they posted in Nov 2017. Forgive me if I’ve got any of my information wrong but I thought I’d share what I know about them.

I've worked for a carpet manufacturer, go for an 80% wool 20% nylon mid every time. That's contract quality.

My living room carpet has a high percentage of wool. It was laid over 20 years ago and still looks as good as that day!

I've totally gone off it, but can't justify replacing it!

I have treated moth proof wool carpet on the stairs; a different will on landing and bedroom. The latter was munched by moth, the former fine even where they were touching.
So yes moth proof does work.

I've heard of a few people with carpet moths (London) so when I come to replace my ancient carpets I will probably go for synthetic even though it's terrible for the environment.
Shame because I would much prefer to have wool, but having been witness to others having to rip out their lovely wool carpets and throw out most of their clothes too x

I’ve got 80/20 wool/synthetic up the stairs and in the bedrooms. It’s really hard wearing, been down for 3 years now and coped with 2 perpetually muddy spaniels and a toddler and still looks new. Easy to keep clean, doesn’t stain.

No moth issues here, but starting to worry a bit reading this thread! Is there a moth repellant for carpets?
