Aibu to ask for the hive to tell me if there is a such a thing as a gf birthday cake in any of the major supermarkets? Dds party tomorrow and she said this morning she would like gf for her friend who has celiacs.
I live rurally so big distance between supermarkets. I can get to Tesco, Sainsbury's (big stores) or a Waitrose (quite small)
Thank you!

I find Sainsbury’s to be best for this sort of thing.

NannyR · 22/11/2019 11:03

A quick Google shows that Tesco and sainsburys do them.

MrsMonkeyBear · 22/11/2019 11:05

Tesco have a Free From Caterpillar cake. I only know as DD1s friend is gluten free and I felt bad that she wouldn't get a piece of cake at the party.

itsgettingweird · 22/11/2019 11:07

The sainburies one is lovely.

That's what I had for my birthday!

TheSandgroper · 22/11/2019 11:08

I always, always took a cake to children’s parties. I would always check with the hostess but no one ever turned down an extra cake to share.

I do get where you are coming from but perhaps the mother has a party pack she keeps on hand. I would touch base with her.

M&S also do a gf Colin the caterpillar. Just worth ringing first as not all supermarkets stock the gf birthday cakes. But you can get them in Asda, Tesco and Sainsbury's as well. Lovely of you to think of her, we normally take stuff for our gf child though as not everyone is experienced in working it out (and labelling can be confusing depending on whether she's coeliac, gluten free or wheat free.

Springersrock · 22/11/2019 11:15

I’ve got them from Sainsbury’s in the past, but our local one had cut its GF section massively recently.

My DD is coeliac and I find ASDA is the best for GF if you can get to one

AJPTaylor · 22/11/2019 11:32

In Sainsbury's. Bugger all here! Sigh

We had the Sainsbury's one linked up thread last year. I saw a Tesco's traybake, iced with sweeties on it, that would also work.

busybarbara · 22/11/2019 12:38

Tesco Carl the caterpillar cake is amazing though it is entirely chocolate

ShivD · 22/11/2019 12:48

What I’ve experienced before as someone who has to eat GF is that the host buys some GF cupcakes (Tesco Chocolate ones usually) to go alongside the actual birthday cake. Hope you find something

ShivD · 22/11/2019 12:48

Lovely thought by the way Smile

Chickychoccyegg · 22/11/2019 12:55

i bought a gluten free birthday cake in asda yesterday, they only had one option but it looks nice enough (white icing with coloured stars)
