Not to make cakes for school Xmas fair

I had forgotten that today was the day we were supposed to bring in cakes for the Christmas fair cake stall. The reception parents are responsible for covering this stall.

It's 7.15am. We leave in about an hour to go to school.. I could maybe make a batch of fairly cakes very quickly. But urgh, I can't be bothered. Am I going to be thought of as 'the parent who didn't contribute' if I turn up with nothing!

Do you have time to pop to the shop on your way? I’m sure you can pick up some really cheap

Princecharlesfirstwife · 22/11/2019 07:20

I did 17 years of primary school over 3 dcs. Never once baked a cake for an event. Have no clue if I was though of as ‘that parent’ and more to the point don’t really care.

Just buy some on your way in!

WhenYouCantRunYouCrawl · 22/11/2019 07:20

Is there a shop you can call in on the way to get some cupcakes?

But honestly they probably won't notice if it's anything like our school as they'll be overwhelmed.

Or choc crispy cakes? Could be made in 5 minutes

BeanBag7 · 22/11/2019 07:26

I wouldn't bother. Send your apologies and a fiver donation towards the stall which is way more than your cakes would have brought in anyway.
IME the cake stall always has far too much and there is loads wasted or sold off cheap at the end. Unless it's a tiny school with only 5 reception kids they wont miss one plate of cakes

Grobagsforever · 22/11/2019 07:30

Cake stalls are ridiculous, guilt trips where stretched parents spend hours they don't have baking sugary treats kids don't need. So much more efficient just to donate a fiver direct, when then what would PTA mums do with their time??

Just send money. You've a job to a worry about

EvaHarknessRose · 22/11/2019 07:47

Do next year or even better year 6 once no one else can be bothered any more. The table will be heaving today don't worry.
