To ask teachers/tutors: would you like this Xmas gift?

A hand knit Christmas stocking, filled with a selection of (shop bought) chocolates, Xmas pudding, jam or brandy butter and (home made) candies pecans?

I’m trying to steer away from the time-honoured Prosecco tradition this year, but I’m a bit 🤭 at the number of MNers who apparently hate home made gifts.

It's a lovely thought but an adult does not need a new stocking so it'll take you ages and it won't be used.

RevolutionofOurTime · 21/11/2019 12:53

Oh! Thank you. The way I see it, the stocking is just a fancy gift bag that shows some extra thought went into it... I don’t care if they don’t use it afterwards. But don’t want to give something that will be received with disdain.

And it only takes a few hours to knit a basic stocking, even for a beginner like me!

It sounds lovely and thoughtful. I'd like it!

I only feel squeamish about home-baking if the child is routinely grubby, snotty or has his hand down his pants a lot.

"But don’t want to give something that will be received with disdain."

I honestly don't know a single teacher who would look at it with disdain!

It's a nice idea- especially if the things inside are shop bought- if the teacher doesn't want the stocking for home- it cold stay at school for Christmas decs next year.

I am not a teacher (so sorry for chiming in), but I do wonder with all the effort and the expense you're going to (wool is expensive, is it not?) you might get more appreciation from a gift voucher for a local coffee shop, M&S or shop that sells stationery.

It's such a lovely thought but I'm sure they'll be inundated with sweet stuff and 'bits' X 30 which I imagine is actually quite irritating.

It sounds lovely, go for it.

Thank you ! I think I will do it. The DCs are very excited that I am knitting for their teachers.

DCs are not particularly grubby (and I’ve rarely seen DS with a hand down his pants, I hope he doesn’t do it at school!).

We also have a whip around for the teachers, they get tons of vouchers (literally hundreds of pounds). They really don’t need any more.
