To wonder why people don't vote Green?

Given that climate change is such a pressing issue, and lots of us are remainers i am amazed that more don't vote Green.
Someone i know said it was their overly pro trans stance but to me this is nothing compared to the threat of rising sea waters or desertification etc.
What am i missing?

Women's rights (a woman is an adult human female, not a 'non man'), all their policies penalise the poor and working poor, they're fucking lunatics. Would never vote for them.

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 20/11/2019 17:43

I don't vote for them anymore as they are increasingly anti women and anti-science.

RibenaMonsoon · 20/11/2019 17:46

I'm originally from Brighton. We had Green in power when my MIL was visiting from abroad.

The bin men were on strike at the time. There was rubbish literally spread all over the pavements. We were walking to meet my parents for lunch and I remember we were trying to step over days old empty cans and packages and just general waste. I just kept apologising profusely. She was fine about it but I was so embarrassed.

There was a tree, massive tree which the roots has grown too big and were growing into the road. This tree had abviously been around for hundreds of years.
The council refused to keep the tree and were resolved to cut it down.,
It was only when the people protested and peritioned (a few people actually climbed the tree and camped out in it in the snow) to get them to create a solution which would save both the road and the tree. Which obviously proved that they could infact do something about it but chose to do the least expensive thing.

That's when I realised that the green party don't really care too much about their own policies. It's all about money and they are just as bad as the rest of them in that regard.
There's no way I'd vote Green. Also their other policies don't appeal to me much in comparison to others.

lljkk · 20/11/2019 19:01

I would probably vote for Greens in 2019 if they were standing here (and therefore, Libdems not standing).

I oppose no tuition fees policy but every party has some policy I dislike.

RuffleCrow · 20/11/2019 19:05

I hate the Greens as much as the next person (now) but the rubbish in the streets thing was actually carefully concocted by the unions and Labour to try and oust the Greens. Basically because the Greens had attempted to level out pay between male refuse collectors and women doing comparable work (back when they knew what a woman was, of course) (something that many Labour councils had done elsewhere with, strangely, zero complaint from the unions concerned). Hmm

Hingeandbracket · 20/11/2019 19:31

I vote green exactly on the premise they wont get in. I dont want them in a majority power, but a stronger presence in the house of commons for environmental reasons can never be a bad thing.
Eh?

LadyMonicaBaddingham · 20/11/2019 19:33

Too woke to cope

GunpowderGelatine · 20/11/2019 19:36

Because they refer to women as 'non-men'. I don't vote for misogynists who support female erasure

Inebriati · 20/11/2019 19:56

Becuase they have allowed the party to become captured by men who want to rule women (mainly by invalidating us), and its that attitude that has brought the human race to this point in the first place.

Harpingon · 20/11/2019 20:38

As a woman I would not feel welcome in the green party.

Herbalteahippie · 21/11/2019 00:41

YANBU. I think the same OP x

BeanTownNancy · 21/11/2019 00:52

Because the AV Referendum didn't pass.
I'm still heartbroken.

I just want the Tories out. We've had a decade of it, it's time for a change now.

Kazzyhoward · 21/11/2019 08:45

They're just too extreme with their anti-car, anti-flight, tree-hugging, newt loving obsessions. Yes, of course, we have to preserve wildlife, save the planet, etc., but you're not going to get people on board if you basically want to ruin people's lives today by crazy extreme policies. If they were more moderate, they'd probably get massive support and could probably put themselves in a position where they could influence things. At the end of the day, they're probably right with what they want to do, but they need to change their message to get people on board with them to actually make a difference.

If your local policy is to ban vehicles from the entire town centre (inc schools, hospitals, shops, railway station), - basically pedestrianise the lot of it, then you've just alienated the majority of local voters who drive and will never get a vote (they usually lose their deposit in this town!). Particularly in an area with poor public transport. It may be a vote winner in Central London with their fantastic public transport system, but not in a Northern town where the park n ride stops at 6pm!

3yrolddrama · 21/11/2019 08:50

It baffles me. I vote green. And will this year. I also live in a labour stronghold and will definitely end up with a labour MP. But I will still vote green! Why not?

Climate change is the only issue that I’m concerned with right now!

Why aren’t those young people who are boycotting because “there’s no one to vote for”?! Angry Not simply voting green?

YourOpinionIsNoted · 21/11/2019 10:20

Why aren’t those young people who are boycotting because “there’s no one to vote for”?! angry Not simply voting green?

Don't know if I count as young, but I am apparently a millennial.

I can't vote for a party that thinks I'm a non-man, wants to allow any man unfettered access to women and children on their say so, and sheltered a paedophile enabler.

That's pretty simple, isn't it?

Whattodoabout · 21/11/2019 10:25

No Green candidate in my area. Where I used to live there was one, he got about 50 votes in the 2015 election.

It’s a wasted vote, that’s why.

MustardScreams · 21/11/2019 10:28

The whole non-men debacle means they can get to fuck as far as I’m concerned.

Also they have no policies outside of climate change. Climate change is of course very important, but so is everything else affecting people currently.

Tanith · 21/11/2019 10:29

I was horrified by the Challenor case, really horrified.

They have no place anywhere near Government until they've learned basic checks and safeguarding.

AutumnRose1 · 21/11/2019 10:32

During the previous to last election, I contacted them three times and asked about overpopulation and how they plan to tackle it. Zilch.

During the previous one I tried again and got a word salad which ignored my question but talked a lot about housing.

Also, they don’t know what a woman is.
So, no.

QueenBlueberries · 21/11/2019 10:32

Have voted Green in the past but not last three elections. I agree with many of their policies, however at the moment I just don't want the lying twat that is Boris Johnson to be our next prime minister for another four-five years so I would vote for anyone else who has a chance of winning against the Conservatives, even if that would be a dolphin.

Prawnofthepatriarchy · 21/11/2019 10:38

I can't vote for a party that thinks I'm a non-man, wants to allow any man unfettered access to women and children on their say so, and sheltered a paedophile enabler.

That sums up my position. Thank you, RuffleCrow.

AutumnRose1 · 21/11/2019 10:42

I'd also question their brain power generally

are any of their policies through through? Like that copyright disaster they had a while ago. Their only comment was "give us a break, we hadn't thought about it properly, it was just an idea".

That's not an approach to policy. Think it through before you announce it!

BlooperReel · 21/11/2019 10:45

For me I would never vote for them because of their horrific approach to safeguarding (or rather, disregard for it)aka the Challenor debacle, and the referencing females as 'non-males'. I cannot vote for any party who are so woke, their brains have fallen out, to quote the late, great Magdalen Berns.

Ticklemeelmo · 21/11/2019 10:49

I have voted Green in the past.

Right now I wouldn't vote for them because otherwise there will be a split of the non-Tory vote between Labour, Lib Dem and Green, the Tories will get in again and we'll end up with more of the endless shower of shite that is Brexit.

PBo83 · 21/11/2019 11:01

I wouldn't vote green because:

  • I voted leave
  • I think £100bn could be better spent
  • They seem to have very few policies on anything else
