I’ve signed up for organ donation. I’m 48 and a bit long in the tooth maybe, no one would want my liver for certain, but ... can’t believe I haven’t done it before Blush

Not seen it but well done you.

Ponoka7 · 18/11/2019 22:13

Have you just ruined the film? Was that a plot twist?

It doesn't matter that you didn't sign up before, you haven't died Grin

demelza82 · 19/11/2019 07:16

Ummmmmm. - a spoiler alert maybe.....

CupoTeap · 19/11/2019 07:19

To be fair I'd guessed that from the trailer and the music

Dyrne · 19/11/2019 07:20

Ooh that’s a massive plot twist/spoiler!

It sounds like a really interesting one. I wasn’t going to watch the film anyway so I don’t mind, but you might want to ask Mumsnet to add a spoiler warning to your title. Grin

Well done on signing up for organ donation. Remember to make sure your family is aware of your wishes as they ultimately have final say if your organs get used or not, regardless of if you’re signed up.

BroomstickOfLove · 19/11/2019 07:21

People would totally want your liver.i know someone who is alive right now only because of an elderly liver donor.

Spam88 · 19/11/2019 07:32

Has it changed to opt out in England yet?

Dyrne · 19/11/2019 07:40

Spam88 it comes in Spring 2020. But it Will still rely on relatives giving permission so completely pointless really - medical staff already ask even if the person is not on the organ donation register, so I’m not really sure why they are changing?

JeffreeStar · 19/11/2019 07:42

Went to see that on Sunday. It was awful! We all hated it. Thought it was just a massive Emma Thompson political statement.

Did like the homelessness awareness message though.

Spam88 · 19/11/2019 08:59

dyrne I'm in wales so it's been opt out for a few years here. I thought the difference was that with opt in they can't take a donation unless the person has registered, even if their family say that's what they want. So it means you don't lose all those donations from people who were happy to donate but never got round to registering. I might have misunderstood though!

Youngatheart00 · 19/11/2019 09:04

So corny but I enjoyed the film, something light hearted (no pun intended....ha!) is exactly what I needed. I even shed a tear at one point and a few LOL moments. DH hated it though!

AutumnRose1 · 19/11/2019 09:08

Oh dear
It’s not linked up to George’s health is it? I guess not because it was written before?

Looks dire.

FreeBedForFlys · 19/11/2019 09:12

Oh god don’t tell me that words 3-7 in “Last Christmas” are a hint?? I was going to see this but I don’t think I’ll bother. I was on the fence anyway tbh because I’ve gone off Emma Thompson since she exposed herself as a woke luvvie.

Dyrne · 19/11/2019 09:24

Spam88 no they can still ask relatives to donate if the person isn’t on the register - the register only really exists as a function to help let your relatives know what your wishes are, however they can still override them. It’s symbolic really, nothing more.

worlybear · 20/11/2019 18:25

Music was great!
Film was crap.

vincettenoir · 20/11/2019 19:07

I loved it even though it was a crap film. Very different from my last cinema trip to see Joker. That was a brilliant film but I can’t say I enjoyed it.

Snooks1971 · 20/11/2019 21:35

Sorry belated OP here. Apologies if a spoiler occurred and thanks to whichever pp got MNHQ to add the Spoiler Alert to the title!

Yes have to agree it’s a dire film, I took dd and her friend, both almost 12 and it being a 12A and me being a Responsible Adult thought I should go too to chaperone. I looked like a right saddo sitting on my own 2 rows behind them (they were in a double seat thing near the front troughing Galaxy).
I do stand by the donor register thing though that I mentioned in the OP. Bloody crazy that a stupid film has made me finally get round to registering.

Ugzbugz · 20/11/2019 22:03

I loved the film but had no idea what was going on until the very end 🤣 I am a bit dumb though but defo recommend watching

bridgetreilly · 20/11/2019 22:19

To be fair, I am the worst person at working out plot twists and even I got this one just from seeing the trailer. It's exactly what you all think if you've ever heard the song, so, yeah.

But still, please get a donor card. My friend had a double lung transplant last year meaning that for the first time in her adult life she is able to make plans for a future. It makes a difference.
