To ask you to calm me down, scared of getting sick bug at work!!

My toddler started with a sick bug on Friday night, stopped vomiting yesterday dinner time and has just been very quiet and sleeping pretty much.

99% of the time when my children have sick bugs I catch them no matter how much I wash my hands etc. For past two days I’ve only ate toast pretty much etc to try and not have much on my stomach because I’m terrified of vomitting.

Tomorrow I’m in work and I’m so so so scared of having the sudden urge to be sick and start having the bug, the toilets aren’t very close by and I’m terrified of being sick in front of everyone.
I haven’t felt ill or anything yet but I just feel it may start any time.

Any advice?

I have no advice but I feel similar when DC have the dreaded bugs. Most times I manage to avoid but if I do catch it I seem to be hit worse. Last time I was at home thankfully but had to ring Oh crying to come home as I couldn’t have done the school run 😷

Try not to panic though. If you get sick you will have to leave and come home. In my experience though a sickness bug has never started randomly in the day. I usually wake up with it during the night or first thing. If you’re feeling okay when you wake you’ll be probably be ok at work...

When you're washing your hands make sure you rub the soap all over for at least twenty seconds - it was a revelation to me how long that actually was when I timed it. And fingers crossed

BlueLadybird · 17/11/2019 20:54

Hopefully you don’t catch it, but if you do you’ll probably start feeling sick before you are sick leaving you time to go home or at least get to the toilet. But if you’re worried could you keep a bag and a tissue on your in case you are very suddenly sick?

I would try to eat normally. If you’re only eating toast your body won’t be in the best shape to fight off a bug.

Y worry about something you have so little control over?

wishywashy27 · 17/11/2019 20:59

I hate sick bugs. When my dc get them I always worry for at least a week that it's going to catch up with me. The worst thing is when you have plans and you're just waiting in anticipation to see if it's going to crop up and ruin your life for a few days 😂
There's literally nothing you can do. Hopefully you'll avoid it. But as pp said keep a bag and wipes in your bag as a precaution. Usually you'll feel the nausea and sweats before you actually hurl so it should buy you some time.

Thanks all, last time a sick bug came I actually didn’t vomit but had the worst stomach cramps I’ve ever had and plodded on through my day (not at work) so I’m hoping if I do catch it, I will get something similar to that.

The other times have been horrendous tho and coming out both ends Blush i dread how I will drive home!!
I will take a few bags and wipes etc, and yes hopefully if it does crop up I will feel nausea etc first so time to tell manager and get out of there before it strikes!!

I feel like this OP but you'll know your feeling sick a long time before it happens
So if you start to feel sick you just go home.

To be on the safe side I always keep a bag on me in these situations, it's more of like a comfort blanket but it stops the panicking

BlueLadybird · 17/11/2019 21:12

When you’ve had it before, how did it start? I think if you start to feel really sick or have toilet issues you just need to go straight home. Don’t wait around seeing how you feel etc. I wouldn’t have thought your manager would want a sickness bug at work?

BlueCornsihPixie · 17/11/2019 21:12

Honestly OP if you know there's a chance then first symptoms just go home. You'll have plenty of time from the first signs of illness to any expulsions.

Keep a bowl and spare clothes in your car as well, but you'll be fine. At the end of the day absolute worse case scenario and you are sick at work, it feels awful for you but no one else will care so don't worry.

I work in a hospital and there was norovirus on two of the wards I often work on a few days before we were due to go to Disneyland! I was in a panic, sure I’d get it and our plans would be ruined.

I was obsessive about hand washing and washing clothes as soon as I got home etc. But I didn’t catch it. Hopefully you won’t either.
