just want a bit of reassurance if any one has been told the same as me, had pain in breast and felt a lump. strong link of breast cancer in family so got ultrasound after a week. was told it was a lymp node that I was feeling and it was ok to be there and didn't look as if anything was wrong. dont know why I still feel uneasy. maybe the fact that it just appeared! thanks in advance.

I would put a note for yourself to check it weekly. If it’s still there in a couple of weeks go back to your GP. I would have expected it to disappear by then so nothing to worry about.

Who did the ultrasound? Was it a breast surgeon?

speakout · 17/11/2019 17:21

Did you have the ultrasound via a GP referral? Private clinic? Hospital?

I had a lump back in 2012 which the ultrasound diagnosed as an encapsulated, necrotic cyst. I have had 3 clear mammograms since then.

I was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2017, all clear after treatment and have now had 2 clear mammograms, In march this year, i found 2 new very small lumps, i had an ultrasound and the head radiographer and my consultant told me there and then that they were benign cysts and showed me the scan of my cancerous lump along with the benign cysts, very very clearly different on the scan images. What i’m trying to say to you is that they can expertly tell the difference. . Hope this helps put your mind at rest xx

Hi pain in breast with enlarged lymph node is very common. An experienced radiographer can distinguish between a lymph node, a cyst and a tumour, which will show 'hot' on the scan. Your glad will settle in a few weeks. If you poke it weekly it will probably stay sore a while longer. I would leave it a couple of months and then re-examine your breast with a flat hand. If it helps I. Have had two lumps excised over the years, one painful and one kit, but both were fibroid lumps. I honestly think you have nothing to worry about - it's one area of medicine where you can be sure they know what they are looking at on screen. If there was even a smidgen of doubt they would needle biopsy.

thank you all very much for your replies. the gp referred me to the breast clinic and she did have a good look doing the ultrasound and said all looked ok. perhaps it's the strong link of breast cancer in the family that has me panicked. you lovely ladies have made me feel so much better xx
