Apart from the fact I'm curious, making a career change. My heart is in midwifery but the pay is bad. I'm money motivated so know I could do something I'm less passionate about if it meant more money.

Currently doing an access course.

taxiforme · 17/11/2019 19:34

Criminal lawyer £51k not very fat cat lawyer here as I work stupid hours on difficult and emotionally demanding cases and I have been qualified 30 years

The Government puts Criminal Justice spending at the bottom of the pile.

Superleo837 · 17/11/2019 19:37

£43k lawyer but I’m exhausted and considering giving up altogether

tequilasunrises · 17/11/2019 19:41

£30K, I work in a project delivery role in the Defence Industry mainly in the costing cells. I’m 26 so still kind of figuring out where I want to go long term. A lot in my industry who are on highest salaries have been around years and pay progression sadly isn’t as good anymore.

RubyWho · 17/11/2019 19:42

Director of a Ops department in an HEI.
£80K. SE. I’m mid 30s.

Bashbaby · 17/11/2019 19:42

Veterinary Surgeon. Been qualified 16 years and a clinical lead for the last 5...£54k. No private healthcare, most basic workplace pension, statutory maternity pay, 2 weeks sick pay on top of statutory. Vets are most definitely NOT in it for the money despite what many people think!

Pineapple1 · 17/11/2019 19:52

Teacher.
Just been moved up to M3, which is approx £29.5k.
I teach max allocation of 45/50 periods a fortnight across 19 classes. I teach approximately 500 students a fortnight.
I don't know anyone's names Grin

Pineapple1 · 17/11/2019 19:56

@Joerev

Good luck, I have a degree in Robotics. Zero jobs available in the UK without 3-5years experience. Became a teacher instead.

nespressowoo · 17/11/2019 19:58

I'm a HV at the top of band 6. Think it's £37k ish full time - I do 22.5hrs and bring home around £22k a year.

Nyata · 17/11/2019 20:01

Where are you getting these stats from. Have you considered that maybe Mnetters just happen to be the lucky few.😅

NannyPear · 17/11/2019 20:02

Where are you in the UK @Bashbaby? I'm in Scotland and you'd be far pushed to reach £54k regardless of experience or position (unless purely ECC). I'm 7 years qualified and on £39k, but looking for a pay increase when I return from maternity. Recruitment is atrocious so I'm hoping for that to go in my favour!

Justanotherlurker · 17/11/2019 20:11

Senior Database architect for one of the major household silicon valley companies.

200K a year (recent payrise) with loads of perks and only work 3 days a week, but will add I'm on call 24/7 and have to answer emails deal with queries if they arise.

Ohyesyoudid · 17/11/2019 20:14

I've recently quit my job to be a SAHM
Husband on approx 78k + bonuses

Meercatsarecats · 17/11/2019 20:28

I'm a waitress.
Average 30 hours a week I earn 18k a year including tips.
It's hard physically and quite stressful at times but I work the hours that fit around being a single parent and never take that stress home with me, it offers flexibility and can be a fun job, plus im good at it.
I get perks which also save me money i wouldn't get in other jobs I could do with my limited skill set and availability.

onepinkonegreen · 17/11/2019 20:32

PR director-£140k pro rata

Bashbaby · 17/11/2019 20:35

@NannyPear I’m in yorkshire. I took on quite a responsible role at a first opinion/referral practice at only 5 years qualified which stood me in good stead. So have been in a senior position for a fair few years. Also current job am sole charge. CVS practices have a quite good salary banding set up based on years qualified and what you can actually do!

Figamol · 17/11/2019 20:36

Ginnotgym · 17/11/2019 20:40

Part Time (3 days per wk) senior director in an ad agency - £50k

NannyPear · 17/11/2019 20:55

@Bashbaby good to know! Vet world can be pretty secretive salary wise. I'm in an independent practice right now. I think the anti-corporate mentality is slowly shifting with people noticing more perks with being part of one (though still wildly below par compared to most professions!). Vet salaries are pretty decent post qualification but they get capped so quickly. It's knowing you will work another 30-40 years without much chance of salary growth which bums me out a lot. After all, I'm only in it for the money ;)

Joerev · 17/11/2019 20:56

@UsedtobeFeckless. You know your wrote contract killer right??

Joerev · 17/11/2019 20:58

@Pineapple1. Oh that makes me so sad! Wouldn’t mind programming for AI. I don’t want to do gaming or apps.

thelonggame · 17/11/2019 20:58
