Paperchase tit wrapping paper?

Onthetrain75 · 15/11/2019 21:24

So I was in Paperchase earlier today when I noticed white wrapping paper covered with what I am pretty sure was various types of silver tits. I said to the assistant, if you’re going to sell this, where is the knob paper? AIBU to think they should sell both?!!

@ranoutofquinoaandprosecco look at the picture someone posted, second row up from the bottom, the red one shows a mastectomy.

From my extensive experience parenting teenage girls I know Paperchase is right up their alley and I have the diminished bank balance to prove it.
I have mixed feelings about the design.
No matter how right on Paperchase would like us to think they are it's just another way to get people to buy their stuff.
Boobs whilst they should be celebrated in all their different way of being are like it or not, sexual.
However there are definitely some occasions on which it would be appropriate and fun to use this paper.

If you search "boob" on the Paperchase website you'll see other merchandise, eg boob candle, gold boobs postcard, "Merry boobie Christmas" card, pencil case with an image of a calculator with 'boobies' spelt out using numbers (yeah, really empowering and not at all juvenile).

Basically, Paperchase constantly churns out vast quantities of unnecessary shite. I often wonder what happens to their unsold stock - landfill, incinerated?

'I'm a bit disappointed as I thought it was paper with blue tits etc on and thought it sounded quite nice!'

This.

It's not offensive, just rather... unnecessary.

As an aside, I hate the word "tits". Ugh. Reminds me of "show us yer tits love"

In other news, Paperchase isn't aimed at kids and I think that you aren't forced to buy shit you don't want

Eh? The place is full of stuff for children!
Agree, don't buy stuff you don't like but Paperchase is most definitely not just for adults.

I don´t think boobs are comparable to penises. If they were selling vulva, then yes, I could see that it would reasonable to ask where were the penis cards. If anything, they could have made cards with male chests on them.

I quite like these cards. I don't see anything sexual about them.

Only sad little men with only one thing going on in their tiny brain call them tits. Grim.

As the print shows different shapes, sizes and includes a post mastectomy chest, I think you’re missing the point. That is, it’s celebrating bodies. I don’t think willy paper is the equivalent but maybe a man’s torso to illustrate different shapes and sizes i.e muscly men with 6 packs and skinny ones too would be good.

I think this stationery is obviously aimed at women and not men and isn't designed for objectification or titillation.
I don't find pictures of boobs offensive or puerile in this context.

Noone said it was, they said it wasn't aimed at kids.
Smiggle is aimed at kids.
Paperchase's core market is adults but it has a small kids range too.

I don't agree. A big part of their target market is children/ teens.
Huge range in the one near me (city location). Most of the ground floor is aimed at the younger market.

My teens like the shop. I think it’s overpriced but do like the funny greeting cards.

Was it just me that looked at that notebook and tried to find the pair of breasts that most closely represented my own?

Right, l now know which wrapping paper I’m getting my sister. She’ll love it! I’ve still got to sort the content though!

As an afterthought, you can get charity cards, why not charity gift wrap?

It's just boobs and lots of different ones at that.If anything it shows girls that they come in all shapes and sizes, not "perfect" as they appear in the media.

@Onthetrain75 it’s from their sisterhood range and it’s meant to be about normalising different boobs and representation. The fact that you immediately thought of 90’s lad culture and demanded cock paper says more about your internalised belief that boobs are purely for men imo.

@ranoutofquinoaandprosecco they did.

Around 50% of the adult population have breasts and we should be proud of them. There is nothing taboo or embarasing about them.

In France you can go topless on almost any beach (and it is not all 18-23 Baywatch type people, it’s probably more older women) and in Denmark you can go topless in public swimming pools. And nobody bats an eyelid.

Report
StarlightLady · 16/11/2019 13:03

And please don’t think pictures of, or the sight of breasts are going to cause children any harm.
