Paperchase tit wrapping paper?

Onthetrain75 · 15/11/2019 21:24

So I was in Paperchase earlier today when I noticed white wrapping paper covered with what I am pretty sure was various types of silver tits. I said to the assistant, if you’re going to sell this, where is the knob paper? AIBU to think they should sell both?!!

OP posts:
BugEyedBeans · 15/11/2019 23:53

They look like crude graffiti boobs to me - totally stupid, naff and embarrassing! And in no way whatsoever contributing to de-objectifying breasts. But then maybe I'm not their demographic.
I certainly wouldn't buy a £10 notebook with tits on it.

1984in2019 · 15/11/2019 23:54

Lots of these arguments in support of paperchase could also have been applied to Page 3.
It’s objectification, plain and simple. If they really want to support diversity - as some have implied this wrapping paper does(?) - then they should start by addressing their gender pay gap www.paperchase.com/en_gb/gpg-report

Was I the only person thinking this was going to be about birds.

Gingerkittykat · 16/11/2019 00:06

I also came onto the thread thinking silver tits were a kind of bird and was wondering why it was offensive.

TheMistressQuickly · 16/11/2019 00:16

Vivienne Westwood did some brilliant diamond penises. So what?!

MashedSpud · 16/11/2019 00:27

I’ve bought my sister a birthday card with dicks on it. I hope she likes it.

steff13 · 16/11/2019 00:29

No. I thought it would be lovely Christmassy paper with little birds and snow. I don't mind the boob paper, though. I wouldn't use it for Christmas.

Endofthedays · 16/11/2019 01:16

DD has a tit water bottle from paper chase.

I do think it desexualises breasts.

WotchaTalkinBoutWillis · 16/11/2019 01:39

Yes!! Thank fark it's not just me lol
Also from reading through the thread, since when has stuff in Paperchase been clearly aimed at kids?
Admittedly, not been for ages but last time I was there was cards/lunchboxes/pencil tins etc with a more adult theme I'd find funny and want for me but never dream of buying for my kids!

StarlightLady · 16/11/2019 02:22

I haven’t seen the paper in question, but let me ask, OP, would you buy or use wrapping paper which depicted a penis? If the answer is no, you have your answer.

The female breast is shown in the symbol of France, because it’s seen as a celebration of life. Throughout much of mainland Europe, you see topless women on beaches, but you do not see exposed penises. There is no comparison between the two.

TheOliphantintheRoom · 16/11/2019 03:17

And why is that I wonder.

ActualHornist · 16/11/2019 03:25

I like it. It was released for international women’s day along with some other stuff. I have the pen.

They’re not sexy boobies.

CircleofWillis · 16/11/2019 03:38

Vulvas would be equivalent to penis' not breast's. I really like the design and would love a gift wrapped in this paper. However as the OP described the paper as covered in 'silver tits' I wonder if it is the same design.

Gingerkittykat · 16/11/2019 04:32

I'm assuming this is the design of the wrapping paper.

CircleofWillis · 16/11/2019 04:42

Breasts

JonnyPocketRocket · 16/11/2019 05:22

I have the pen and notebook from this range. I'm generally quite prudish but I really like it - I like that it shows a range of shapes and sizes.

CircleofWillis · 16/11/2019 05:30

I like the postcard Ginger but wish it showed some mastectomies like the original picture.

MiddleClassProblem · 16/11/2019 07:42

Lots of these arguments in support of paperchase could also have been applied to Page 3.
But no one in this conversation is and they are quite different things.
There are lots of things that apply to lots of other things. It doesn’t mean we feel the same way about both things like you are implying.

ForalltheSaints · 16/11/2019 07:45

Wrong and I am with the OP. Also less likely to be re-used than most designs of wrapping paper.

MiddleClassProblem · 16/11/2019 07:55

I have read in the past how tribes where woman are topless do not sexualise breasts.

We’re coming from a culture that used to think all sorts of women’s body parts on display like ankles and elbows etc were sexualised and covered up. We don’t feel that way anymore.

SoupDragon · 16/11/2019 08:02

It’s objectification, plain and simple.

Can you really not see the difference between

  1. a half naked model with skimpy lingerie, huge breasts and a suggestive caption and
  2. very simple line drawings of many different kinds of breasts.

Really??

BeanBag7 · 16/11/2019 08:08

I like the paper, I dont think its sexual. I have some friends who are strongly pro breastfeeding and I think they'd love it Grin

PassTheSaltCarol · 16/11/2019 08:12

@1984in2019 very interesting report. It shows that no matter how bloody woke they want to seem when it comes down to the brass tacks they are as much sexist pigs as the next company.

I can’t decide what I feel about the boob stationery. I want boobs to be just another body part but while the deeply ingrained sexualisation of women continues they will never be seen that way.

GeometricGiraffes · 16/11/2019 08:14

@CircleofWillis

vans do boob shoes with mastectomy scars

honeyloops · 16/11/2019 08:19

I actually have that as a postcard on a little gallery of pictures in my office/spare room. I like that it's not - unlike Page 3 - just 'perfect' perky boobs.

And OP - breasts aren't analogous with penises, surely? If they were selling vulva prints then maybe penises would be appropriate...
