I get great hotels online by doing research and being prepared to pay for what I consider to be important features.

Sorry OP. Didn’t meant to be facetious in earlier post. You can get good last minute deals online if you are prepared to compromise. Also try hotels slightly out of town, you might save £50 a night by paying £20 for a cab into town.

We've had a brilliant villa with pool for £500 per week going at half term rather than £3000 in August! This was with Owners direct.
