has your dc been upset by the advert or is this over kill by the few, a dragon who causes trouble by melting snow ice and burning things ?

Palegreenstars · 15/11/2019 18:04

Nope but my daughter did say ‘look there’s Franklin’ which made me realise the similarities between the advert and book Franklin and Luna....

geekone · 15/11/2019 18:04

I was traumatised by Watership down when I was about 4 but I felt the need to watch it every year so I must love trauma.

Advert is cute and not traumatic! What about Sainsbury’s no one traumatised by a small child being arrested slung in crate and then thrown out into the cold to die??? (Love the Sainsbury’s advert)

RockinHippy · 15/11/2019 18:14

Seriously Confused

That's a whole new level of snowflake 😂

littlepaddypaws · 15/11/2019 18:14

I hate the Sainsburys advert, reminds me of the child catcher in Chitty Chitty Bang Bang.

Straycatstrut · 15/11/2019 18:23

My mum showed my 3yr old it on her phone and he kept shouting "again!!" squealing and giggling when he breathed the fire. I don't think he was traumatised.

Wtf is there to get traumatised about. Ffs

ThanosSavedMe · 15/11/2019 18:57

@Redpriestandmozart 🤣

SafetyAdvice0FeedWhenAgitated · 15/11/2019 19:03

Something is going on. Kevin the carrot requested JL CEO to contact him😂
Crossover!!!!! Yay!

ReceptionTA · 15/11/2019 19:04

This was shown to the class yesterday by the (heavily pregnant) teacher. There are a few sensitive DC in the class, so we avoid number jacks and Peter Rabbit (yes really) All the DC seemed to enjoy the advert (we weren't advertising JL we were talking about kindness Grin). The teacher welled up and had to compose herself.

There will always be someone who doesn't like something, because we are all different. But sheesh.

PoppetyPing · 15/11/2019 19:10

The snow flakes melted....Brew

CheshireChat · 15/11/2019 19:24

Plus eventually we have to explain the less nice side of life to our kids.

I've just had to explain to DS who's just turned 5 what an asylum was and why we don't have them anymore

BritishHorrorStory · 15/11/2019 20:19

Lol! And here is modern day news Grin

Headline: Parents OUTRAGED at the new John Lewis advert

New John Lewis advert was condemned by parents last night because of blah blah blah...

Shows three pictures of three tweets from people commenting on it.

Then writes the text of what those three tweets said (to pad the article out)

John Lewis have officially apologised/yet to comment.

Article done and dusted, kick back and wait for the clicks and the comments to come through about snowflakes, PC gone mad, toughen up, 'kids today', etc etc...

ChicCroissant · 15/11/2019 20:25

FB had some brilliant banter between Aldi, JL, Waitrose and even M&S got in on the act last night! They even managed a subtle dig at Tesco while doing it.

I can see that some of the Christmas ads make people emotional (I think they are aiming for that) but an apology does seem a bit over the top in this case.

But if you want to see last night's banter, look at Aldi's FB page. Waitrose's response (charred sprouts and a message that Edgar had sorted the Leafy Blinders for Kevin) was my favourite!

ClapHandsAndSaveTheFairies · 15/11/2019 20:33

Not seen it but I went to Waitrose today and immediately was drawn to this cuddly dragon, same time as another lady. We bonded over it, she said the advert was airing, had I seen it, the dragon was in it etc. I said I'd watch out for it. Am I assuming it's been pulled?

Edgar is £15, I think I might need to get one asap now he's famous for killing 'Olaf'.

My Frozen-obsessed 8 year old will LOVE this.

lilbumblebee · 15/11/2019 20:49

To be honest, I'm honestly not surprised at people complaining about the advert.

I use to work for the email team for John Lewis.com and no matter what, whenever the Christmas advert was released, we would always receive some sort of complaint regarding the Christmas adverts.

I always remember when the Bear and the Hare advert was released, we had received a complaint stating how ludicrous, offensive and unrealistic the advert was and how they'd have preferred for the advert to end with the bear ripping off the hares head. Was absolutely baffling.

WhentheRabbitsWentWild · 15/11/2019 21:00

Well I have seen it all now .

Singlebutmarried · 15/11/2019 21:02

@PotholePalace

The selfish giant.

I’m sure I had this in my storyteller magazines when I was about 8

Along with gobolino the witches cat.

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 15/11/2019 21:03

Awwww the weans 😂😂😂😂😂

They aren’t getting any of my money now anyway (snif) so they can stick their dragon.

AutumnRose1 · 15/11/2019 21:08

“ I always remember when the Bear and the Hare advert was released, we had received a complaint stating how ludicrous, offensive and unrealistic the advert was and how they'd have preferred for the advert to end with the bear ripping off the hares head. Was absolutely baffling.”

Just someone having a laugh.

SapphireSeptember · 15/11/2019 21:13

It's so cute! It's not like the ickle baby dragon is doing any of this on purpose, he just hasn't learnt how to control his fire yet!

gavisconismyfriend · 15/11/2019 21:19

Just seen the new Aldi/Kevin the Carrot advert. Now that’s what a Christmas advert should be!

yellowallpaper · 15/11/2019 21:32

It's a lovely ad! What on Earth is the issue?

MoominKitty · 15/11/2019 21:39

@Singlebutmarried I loved gobalino!! I have allllllll the mags in the folders still, but played the tapes to death 😔.

I loved the ad, cried, but 35 weeks here, but didn't see anything traumatising about it tbf
