To want to marry my cleaner.

I recently got a cleaner. I can’t really afford it but the joy of coming home to a beautifully sparkly house is worth eating less foie gras* and more toast.

I actually love her. I think she is awesome.

*for clarity, I have never eaten exploded duck iver.

Are any of you wonderful cleaning gurus in the south Worcestershire area?
I need a regular cleaner to help as I have chronic health problems and can't physically do what I used to. 💐 x

Iamacrapmom · 15/11/2019 20:46

I have one too it is worth the luxury and my house is small too. Nothing better than coming home to a clean freshly made bed with new sheets bliss

I feel the same way about gardener. The cleaning I can cope with, but wielding hedge trimmers and lawn mowers completely f**ed up my hand. So happy he now does it. I don’t want to marry him though.

Having done the job, as a backpacker, I very much agree that cleaning, done well, is a real skill, requiring organisation and speed. I was rubbish! 😂

Glad to see so many appreciate good cleaners!

I'd like one, but I only work 9-5, three days a week (DH full time), so I couldn't justify it. Especially now the DC are adults, one at uni.

Also, I hear a faint whisper from my own, dear departed mother 'What woman could possibly justify a cleaner? Where is her dignity? Plain lazy.....' 🤔

She who left a £500,000 house upon her death, having been a SAHM all her life.....

VaperCut · 16/11/2019 00:34

Yanbu. We all expect an invite to the wedding and I'll be coming in my best Marigolds!

SAHM here and I wish I could justify a cleaner. I do clean really as the house isn't dirty but it's the mess and things that I can't keep on top of. I always get a feeling of rising panic when I hear the clink of the window cleaners ladder and I know the bedrooms are an absolute shit tip Blush

@Toddlerteaplease - only £40 a month? I pay that a week Grin

Gromit78 · 16/11/2019 13:20

I wish I could afford a cleaner. I work full time and have a part time job and I am a single mother. I clean the house once a week, but when my daughter is with me she just trashes it! I guess I could afford one if I make sacrifices in other areas, but I really like being a member of a posh leisure centre in my local hotel, so I shall continue to scrub the house and then relax in the Spa!

Toddlerteaplease · 16/11/2019 14:56

@Aridane I have a tiny house and she died two hours once a fortnight.

TooManyPaws · 16/11/2019 15:28

I used to have a cleaner for two hours on a Friday when I had a one bedroom flat and a long commute. People used to laugh but it was less than they paid for a round of drinks at a fancy nightclub on a Friday evening and it was wonderful to walk into a spotless home for the weekend. If she'd finished the cleaning early, she would clean out kitchen cupboards or do any ironing. It was wonderful.

I remember seeing my boss many years ago for an "ongoing development assessment" and he asked the usual questions -

where do you see yourself in 5 years time?
What is the biggest motivator for you in your job?

Literally all that was in my mind was that working meant I could afford someone to clean my house.

Ive changed career now! But it's still a driver ... I'm currently working out how I can possibly justify having a cleaner in my retirement!!

Br1256 · 17/11/2019 14:11

Can anyone recommend a cleaner in the Redbridge area, if so how much do you pay, thanks jane

CountFosco · 17/11/2019 14:46

I've used the same agency for 6 years, and I have 'my' cleaners (they work in pairs). I love them so much. We have a spare room on the top floor that they only clean when we have visitors, they make the bed for the guest and fold the towels all fancy like in a hotel. I completely boast to all my work friends about my wonderful cleaner, why would I not?

avocadotofu · 17/11/2019 14:49

Our cleaner is truly amazing, I love her so much. She has saved my marriage for sure!!

cannotmakemymindup · 17/11/2019 19:24

Actually loving this thread as a cleaner. It's lovely in whatever job you do to feel appreciated.
Sorry not looking for any more clients!!

I'm recovering from a pretty major back op and my very kind and generous mother in law has offered to pay for a housekeeper /nanny to come in and do 2 hours a day of domestic bits then collect the kids from school. Holy shit my life is transformed - I am going to cry real tears when she has to go 😥"

How nice to hear a mother in law being appreciated for a change, instead of all the usual horror stories / whingeing!

CleansUpDragonPoo · 18/11/2019 16:58

@SurfnTerfFantasticmissfoxy - posted too soon! Meant to say, hope you're recovered soon, and also hope MiL decides to make it a permanent arrangement!

FromDespairToHere · 18/11/2019 19:24

I actually do overtime to afford mine. I have executive functioning issues and find it difficult to keep on top of housework. I'd marry mine in a heartbeat!
