I recently got a cleaner. I can’t really afford it but the joy of coming home to a beautifully sparkly house is worth eating less foie gras* and more toast.

I actually love her. I think she is awesome.

*for clarity, I have never eaten exploded duck iver.

How nice to See a thread praising cleaners. If you're going to have a cleaner for the first time and your house is a little grubby don't worry we / I love something to get my teeth into! As for Christmas bonus, some give me a tin of quality streets, a bottle of wine but my favourite gives me a weeks wage.

The clients who always make me go awww are the ones who give me a Christmas Christmas card with a little note saying how they appreciate all my hard work throughout the year and thanking me very much. Believe me a little appreciation goes a long way as it does in any job.

SmileEachDay · 15/11/2019 16:34

I'm intrigued as to what these cleaners do to make the house sparkle

They make it clean and you have not done the cleaning. This is a sparkly feeling. Plus, mine polishes stuff.

My cleaner has been with us for 6 years, she comes every week for 3 hours on a Thursday afternoon. My house is sparkling clean, she is lovely and always buys my little girl a birthday and a Christmas which is incredibly kind. We always give her a weeks pay at Christmas, she also works for a bunch of my friends now and they all think she is great too.

LadyofMisrule · 15/11/2019 17:45

My cleaner is AMAZING. She is lovely kind, competent, quick, tolerant, and fills me in with all the news so I don't need to bother reading the local paper. I don't know what I'll do when she retires; I can find someone else to clean, but I'll miss all the rest.

Madcatgirl · 15/11/2019 17:55

I used to have a cleaner. Then she quit, for totally understand reasons and remains a friend. I’m having a new lady come over next week to see if she can fit me in. Please pray for me. We both work full time and have the children’s commitments and volunteering commitments so I need another fabulous person like my last cleaner to help get my house in order.

bert3400 · 15/11/2019 17:57

My wonderful cleaner went back to Bulgaria #fuckbrexit

MarshaBradyo · 15/11/2019 17:57

We pay £50 a week for 4 bed house London. Yep I rely on her so much for the cleaning but also making me feel it spring cleans my mind as I walk in.

Pigwig10 · 15/11/2019 18:06

I have a duo of lovely ladies that come in twice a week. I love them...I mean I really do. I don't work full time but i have 3 untidy kids, an untidy husband, 3 cats and a dog. Plus I bloody hate cleaning. I broke my wrist at the weekend and so am very limited as to what I can do. Today is one of my cleaning ladies days....they couldn't come, one was ill, the other's car was ill. I'm so sad, obviously I hope the lovely lady feels better soon, but I miss them already Sad. I'm home and there's shit everywhere. Plus side, the kids are actually pitching in to help. Cleaners rule the world ...Halo

I caved and got a cleaner earlier in the year , struggling with two chronic illnesses while working full time I found the housework overwhelming - it felt like a big admittance or failure but god I love it now , she comes every Friday and the feeling when I get in from work ahead of a weekend with everything done is just wonderful - I would love on 9p noodles if I had to to keep paying her

Witchwobbleknees · 15/11/2019 18:47

We recently decided to have a cleaner too, a bit of a stretch but trying to give myself a bit of a break and like OP an incentive to tidy up before she came. It was horrible she was really critical and did seem to make much overall difference in 2 hours. I cancelled in the end and am now nervous about trying again. I need a non critical non judgmental cleaner in the portsmouth area if anyone knows one?

StrangeLookingParasite · 15/11/2019 18:48

I have both had a cleaner and been a cleaner, and they are awesome!

manicmij · 15/11/2019 18:50

Toddlerteaplease £40 a month. Do you live in a doll's house. I don't have a cleaner but most folk I know who do pay at least £25 a week for 2 hours. Keep hold of your cleaner.

ToftyAC · 15/11/2019 18:53

Shit on it.... sigh! You’ve all convinced me.... I need a cleaner & can justify the cost (somehow 😇)

Cryalot2 · 15/11/2019 18:54

I used to be one , now sadly ill health has left me needing one but can't afford Sad

John470322 · 15/11/2019 18:57

We have a notice in out kitchen that says "A clean kitchen is the sign of a wasted life" we bought it in some shop that sells such trivia. I printed a wee sign and attached it that says "but we do love it when the wonderful people from Pristine come and leave us with a lovely clean kitchen"
A couple of times someone from Pristine, the cleaning company, have said how much they like what we have up so while my original idea was to have it up for one visit it is now permanent. Two or three people form Pristine Home Cleaning come every four weeks and leave our house looking perfect.

The highlight of my week when the cleaners have been. Absolute treasures and very much appreciated by us all.

Candymay · 15/11/2019 19:01

I wish I wish I wish I could find a cleaner/ tidier/ helper/babysitter/cat sitter person! This is not a whinge- I just really would pay someone if I could find someone lovely.

MyGhastIsFlabbered · 15/11/2019 19:03

Is it wrong that I'm slightly disappointed this isn't a thread about an incredibly fit cleaner?

colouringinpro · 15/11/2019 19:03

I would love a cleaner. I work p/t but have DD on ASD spectrum and disabled son with mental health difficulties so parenting is more intense than average I'd say. Do you think that's a good enough reason?!

Desperatelyseekingc · 15/11/2019 19:24

When it comes to cleaners I have kissed a lot of frogs and still waiting for my prince. So for all those with amazing cleaners, prior to the impending nuptials😀; if they cover north London and are looking for new clients, pleaseeeeeeeee PM me. Thank you!

HappyWidcombe · 15/11/2019 19:46

I too would like to add my appreciation of cleaners of the the world. We now have the best cleaner ever, and I have no guilt at all at saying she comes twice a week, for a weekly total of 5 hours. I think I missed the bits in my contract-as-a-woman that stated (a) I should do housework and (b) I should feel guilty about not doing it. I hate it, so does my husband, but we love having a clean and tidy house.
For those who have asked about what she does, I can quote her as saying “I’ll do anything except clean ovens” which seems fair enough to me. So she does general cleaning, ironing, bed making, and anything random I ask like windows, or cleaning fridge out, etc. We have a big house with 4 teens and a hairy dog in it and we both work full time.
It’s only since I went full time that we can afford the twice a week bit, but even when I was part time she did 3 hours a week, and I made cuts on other areas so we could afford her, since her existence keeps me sane.
A decent cleaner in my life is the best luxury money can buy.

She’s on holiday this week. You can all imagine how sad I am, and what “joys” await us at the weekend as we tackle the bare minimum of cleaning 😢

Rosere · 15/11/2019 20:05

We had the best cleaner. Super clean, but better than that, the entire family (we all used her) worshipped her. Total lady. Used bring her kids and all during the holidays.
She went back to uni though, sadly for us. Would have married her if I thought it would have helped 😂 Got a new one though, is ultra clean. Just no chat. Can't win 😂

gizzy1973 · 15/11/2019 20:07

I'm a cleaner and will do most jobs I get asked for my clients
At Christmas I usually get chocolate, wine or small gifts
I really could do with one in my own house as I never seen to have the time of energy to pay it the attention it needs

middlemuddle · 15/11/2019 20:10

I'm a cleaner, and I hope my clients feel this way :)

ICantBelieveIDidThis · 15/11/2019 20:14

I clean in a specialised environment to sterile standards.

My home is not as clean as work.

I have to herd the dust bunnies every now and again.....😳
