when they obviously don't understand what it actually means?
What they're actually referring to is people who have political opinions that are to the right of their's. That doesn't make them a fascist. Just makes you look like an intolerant idiot.

I'm surprised by how many people think that spouting right wing nationalism and xenophobia is just perfectly reasonable political opinion. Thanks Nige, be proud of yourself, you've spread it far and wide. Hoping you get your backside kicked in December.

Depends on how right leaning the opinion is.

In Liverpool we don't allow far right wing groups to march. The Police used to escort them into our city, because they were just a different political leaning. But now we can carry banners declaring ourselves a 'anti fascist' movement. So they don't even get out of the train station.

They would argue the same point as yours. But some opinions are so abhorrent that they should be branded fascist and squashed.
