To ask for your most useless fact?

Rather importantly, I’ve been named Christmas Quiz Master 2019.

This is a ridiculous tradition in our family to have the most bonkers quiz, names go in the hat for Quiz Master and this year I lost won!

So can you please share the most useless piece of information /fact you know?

I will beat the bastards this year. It’s my year!

Last year my sister had a quiz which consisted of us having to name that tune.... after she played it on a bleeding recorder. It was terrible and fantastic - yes there was lots of wine.

How many human figures are there in the Bayeux tapestry? (268, apparently). And- how many penises? 69, I think! 😂

Miljea · 14/11/2019 22:42

Which US state has the union flag 🇬🇧 on it's state flag?

Hawaii

Miljea · 14/11/2019 23:48

I'm loving so many of these but many aren't proper 'pub quiz material'.

A lot are unverifiable. And beyond obscure! That annoys people. Knowing which King preceded King Olafson III isn't anything anyone might know. Note: My Bayeux tapestry question is a tie breaker question! And anyone can have a punt at that.

Pitching a quiz right is a real skill. We drive 15 miles once a month to a tiny country pub, 6 of us to a) support it, and b) because it's a good quiz.

I failed on 'the National Capital closest to the beginning of the alphabet'. We said Accra (is that a capital?); answer was Abu Dhabi. Which I thought was just another UAE emirate! 😊

Most of the worlds polar bears live in Canada

Who was Fanny Sunesson?

(Nick Faldo's caddy)

k1233 · 15/11/2019 09:38

Why don't polar bears eat penguins?

Polar bears only live in the northern hemisphere and penguins only live in the southern hemisphere

Minikievs · 15/11/2019 09:58

@onceandneveragain

YES!!! I love that! I’m going to go back to my colleague that shared the original fact and blow his mind with your extra facts! Thanks!

Lifecraft · 15/11/2019 09:59

Why don't polar bears eat penguins?

Because they can't get them out of the wrapper

"ScreamingCosArgosHaveNoRavens

there are only two words in the English language that have all five vowels in order"
What about abstentious?
Love this thread!

The difference between flotsam and jetsam? Flotsam floated away and Jetsam was thrown away (jettisoned)

k1233 · 15/11/2019 10:44

Come on @StealthPolarBear, you could have raised me abstentiouslessness - she says rather facetiously (oh no, that's not another two... albeit derivatives) Grin

StealthPolarBear · 15/11/2019 10:45

Oh sorry - not rtft! I bet we won't get an answer

StealthPolarBear · 15/11/2019 10:46

Just as it's a busy thread and thay was. Posted on page 1 I mean. Not grumbling about that poster

smalalalalalala · 15/11/2019 11:07

I've heard last time on radio, GPS voice music quizz. Baiscally they put the lyrics of a song into google translation and play it.

It's hard to guess the song with the robotic voice but it's different?

QuimReaper · 15/11/2019 11:47

This thread is GOLD!

UhareFouxisci · 15/11/2019 12:08

@sequin2000 Angels are never female in the Bible. 3 are named- Gabriel, Michael and Satan (fallen angel). The others have the pronoun 'he' not 'she'. Nativity plays need a rethink!!

I think this is pretty well known, but if you made the Angels male in a school nativity play you have just lost a bunch of (traditionally) female speaking roles to make more male roles, and all the girls just get to play sheep or stars or something except the one who gets to be the Virgin Mary. I don't think that's a good change, even if it would be more faithful to the biblical narrative.

soupforbrains · 15/11/2019 12:23

@Badbilly obviously the first Kitkats weren’t made to the same recipe. But now any which aren’t the right shape/weight, are wonky or the logo isn’t good get crushed up and sent back in the production line to be the filling.

paap1975 · 15/11/2019 12:30

Stingrays have 2 penises

Hirsutefirs · 15/11/2019 12:43

Name the only word in English to contain three double letters consecutively?

Bookkeeper.

The average smell has a mass of 760 nanograms. Think about that the next time you sniff up a fart!

A group of porcupines is called a prickle.
Hedgehogs' spines are coloured in the same way as human hair and the colour of their spines is genetic. So, there are blonde, brown- and red-spined hedgehogs depending on their parentage rather than being distinct breeds.
The duck billed platypus is the world's only venomous mammal.
Philip Glass qualified as a plumber as well as a composer.
The smallest bones in the human body are all found in the ear (bonus points for the names - hammer, anvil and stirrup)

I love the recorder idea though, might nick that for our Christmas quiz!

Why is the south of Britain sinking?

Answer: The glaciers from the last ice age caused northern Britain (Scotland & northern England) to sink under the weight of the ice and the southern areas rose slightly. Since the glaciers retreated, Scotland and northern England have been rising back up so the south has been sinking back down. It’s called isostatic rebound.
