www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-7676015/Father-spared-jail-kicking-pregnant-girlfriend-stomach.html

It’s a daily mail link, but despite their sins they actually seem to be doing a great job at bringing domestic violence cases with disappointing verdicts into the public eye. Spared jail?
Aibu to think a harsher sentence should have been given here?
Apparently the man ‘felt trapped in the relationship’
Heaven only knows how his vulnerable pregnant partner felt, living with this monster .
He’ll be lining up his next victim to impregnate, no doubt Sad.

It seems that unless you actually kill a woman, you can do what you like, and avoid jail.
She gets therapy. But how far does therapy go when you know the man who tried to kill you is free to roam?
What does it do to a woman’s self esteem to walk in the world knowing that somebody put his hands to her throat and threatened to kill her unborn child, and authorities don’t find it serious enough?

Horrific story and yes, he should be in jail

Sevenlambs · 12/11/2019 11:42

So why isn’t he? What is so wrong with our legal system that it fails to protect women against dangerous men, time and time again?

OP posts:
LoveNote · 12/11/2019 11:52

he got a prison sentence but its suspended

our prisons are full to bursting, completely overcrowded

but if he offends again he will go straight in. i don't know what the answer here is

BillHadersNewWife · 12/11/2019 11:57

LoveNote Prison Hulks? That would sort them out. Moored on a shitty ship in the middle of the North Sea.

Whattodoabout · 12/11/2019 12:00

I know someone who pushed his pregnant girlfriend down the stairs and was also spared jail for it so this doesn’t surprise me at all.

Sevenlambs · 12/11/2019 12:00

But only 9months imprisonment suspended for 18months.

Non Daily Fail link

Fucking disgusting decision.

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 12/11/2019 12:01

Our prisons are full to bursting. Completely over crowded.

Well if they let the poor blokes who can’t pay their council tax out. I’m sure they’d free up a lot of room.

He felt trapped.
Well perhaps he shouldn’t have dipped his wick.

YANBU. op. I just hope he isn’t given any access to that baby.

Sevenlambs · 12/11/2019 12:03

"He then used both hands to grab her round the throat, the court heard"
Sad

Quite.

I'd much rather that violent criminals were in prison, rather than those who are no danger to the public but have committed a "white collar" crime.

LoveNote · 12/11/2019 12:10

but then white collar crime would rocket and violent crime off the back of it

prison for all is the answer

with more prisons built and more care for serving prison officers as turnover is high. too high, its a stressful job

i also believe tougher conditions inside for the troublemakers and repeat offenders

www.itv.com/news/granada/2019-07-24/tag-time-leads-to-violent-attacker-only-serving-six-months-in-jail/

But then I’m reminded of this.

Yet the guy who let off two fireworks during a Rememberance Sunday ceremony got 16 weeks behind bars.

Yeah, what he did was in bad taste, and potentially dangerous, but I don't think it's anywhere near as bad as kicking the shit out of someone, particularly a pregnant woman.

MsPotterPepper · 12/11/2019 12:25

Women get sent to prison for shoplifting food to feed their children.
Men get spared jail for even the most violent crimes.

World is fucked up.

BouquetOfRoses · 12/11/2019 12:27

Ridiculous sentencing

Starksforthewin · 12/11/2019 12:35

The police must be in absolute despair when the judiciary acts like this.

Women are seen as somehow disposable. Violence against them is never taken as seriously as it should be.

He looks like a vile thug as well.

Contraceptionismyfriend · 12/11/2019 12:36

Nah they don't even get prison for killing women any more.

It'll get worse for the poor woman :( he'll be going to court for visitation next. Which he'll more than likely get.

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 12/11/2019 12:37

Women gets sent to prison for shop lifting to feed her children.
Men get spared jail for even the most violet crimes.

This This This. With colossal 🔔s on.

Sevenlambs · 12/11/2019 12:38

It doesn’t seem the prisons are full of council tax evaders.
So perhaps it’s just violence against women that is not taken so seriously?

i'm following the machin/barass live court updates today

now this is something they deserve full life tariffs.

the judges have to use sentencing guidelines, and they don't discriminate on sex. thats the judicial system. its not as simple as people think and everyone see's different crimes differently

that council tax dodger may have had other spiralling debts....he may have been stealing to pay them, or burgling. during the course of one of those burglaries he may have injured a homeowner discovering him etc etc.....simple crimes will escalate if not 'nipped in the bud' early on. sadly, ive seen it

our prisons are full of drink drivers.....many of whom are female. i can describe what a drink/drive fatality aftermath looks like in detail, including several motorway high speed accidents, that sight will never leave me

not making excuses, but its all very detailed and complicated and not as simple as it seems

Sevenlambs · 12/11/2019 12:49

@lovenote since 2005 there have been 595093 convictions for drink driving offences.
500896 of those drivers were male.
So some were female.

*prison for all is the answer

I largely do not disagree, however, as there is a finite number of people who can be imprisoned at any one time. I think the most dangerous (i.e. violent criminals) should be priority for prison sentences.
