That's It- I have had enough of bras!

After another uncomfortable day with an underwire poking me I've thrown it away and resorted to a comfy sleep bra for the day that gives me monoboob but I don't care. I'm a 38 E so need something soft and comfy. I'm perimenopausal and fed up of all the stupid uncomfortable things women have to wear.

Weekend shopping for soft comfortable bras ahead- any recommendations?

Sloggi stretchy pull on cotton bra - absolute bliss.

I've got a drawer full of fancy lace bras but can't face wearing anything
else but these Sloggi ones.
They wash nicely too.

They'll cover OPs nipples just about @ArthurEyeTits

3weemonkeys · 12/11/2019 11:03

monoboob Grin. I hate bras too. Sometimes don't wear one but have to walk slowly to prevent boobs bouncing around my waist (no longer perky). If I do wear one, it gets discarded as soon as I am home. Now doesn't that paint picture of sophistication?

RollercoasterCoaster · 12/11/2019 11:07

I’ve recently bought this www.marksandspencer.com/star-flock-padded-underwired-full-cup-bra/p/clp60285149?carousel=FUNH_AT_SIMILAR_END_PDP_16_2

It’s the most comfortable ‘proper’ bra I think I’ve ever owned.

nibdedibble · 12/11/2019 11:08

I'm the same - definitely in the monoboob club.

Mostly it annoys me that in order to find a nice comfortable bra I might have to do hours and hours of research, possibly with strangers measuring my tits. It's just unacceptable.

So I get these quite thick stretchy bras from Sainsburys at the same time as I do the food shopping, and be done. They're fine. I can't see a better bra giving enough of a better result that I'm prepared to put the time and pain in.

YessicaHaircut · 12/11/2019 11:09

I hear you OP, I hate underwired bras with a passion!

For work I usually wear one of these from Sainsburys:
tuclothing.sainsburys.co.uk/p/Black-%26-White-Non-Wired-Comfort-Bra-2-Pack-/135731804-White

I’m 36DD and find these supportive enough but v comfortable.

TinklyLittleLaugh · 12/11/2019 11:10

Freya have been a gamechanger for me. In my 50s and never been comfortable in a bra before. I recommend Idol. You don't necessarily need something soft, just something that fits well.

RollercoasterCoaster · 12/11/2019 11:10

Should have said in my post above, I bought it in 36E so not far off your size.

crochetmonkey74 · 12/11/2019 11:13

AmIThough They do seem to have my size!

I fractured a rib earlier this year and couldn't bear to wear under wires.
I wore soft bralets while it was sore (for 4 whole months) but they really don't give decent support or shape.
When I tried to go back to underwires (after happily wearing them for decades) I found them really uncomfortable.
But this unwired bra gives the shape I want and is so comfy.

They do a 38 e

crochetmonkey74 · 12/11/2019 11:16

nibdedibble

ooh I am right by a big Sainsburys- do you know what they are called? Do they look like a little crop top?

OP posts:
nibdedibble · 12/11/2019 11:18

I just had a look on the website but couldn't find them. They are plain, black, little bow on the front. The main thing is the fabric is not at all flimsy. I wouldn't go running in them but for everyday in autumn/winter they are great. I'm about a 40E if that helps, I get a large.

slashlover · 12/11/2019 11:21

Have you been properly measured recently? I got measured in Bravissimo and found I had been wearing the wrong size, whenever I lose or gain a stone they become uncomfortable because my size changes slightly.

AngusThermopyle · 12/11/2019 11:26

I wear these from Sainsbury's, I'm a 42G and wear the size xl , 20.
They're really comfortable and give great support. Quite cheap and various colours.

That's It- I have had enough of bras!
Blatherskite · 12/11/2019 11:30

I've recently given up on underwired bras and wear soft bralets a lot but they really don't give enough support.

I have the added problem that I'm a 30F which appears to be a size covered by no one but Bravissimo. Anything with that size cup usually has a bigger back size.

NorthEndGal · 12/11/2019 11:31

I'm only a d cup, so not the same struggles, but I said fuck it to bras a few years ago, and it has been a revelation.
Braless forever I shall be
Unbound, joyful finally free

BinkySodPlop · 12/11/2019 11:31

I would also recommend measuring according to different "rules"- most places (e.g. M&S, John Lewis etc..) will add +4 inches to the band, and therefore reduce the cup by 4 sizes. You may find that an underwire doesn't irritate as much in a different size. Bravissimo is the best high street chain for measuring. If you definitely don't want a wire, have a look at Molke online - not dainty and strappy, but very supportive of the larger bust. They have measuring instructions on their web page.

AmIThough · 12/11/2019 11:35

@crochetmonkey74 it'll fit your back and your boobs will fall out I reckon! Let me know how you get on Grin

Branleuse · 12/11/2019 11:45

Have you looked at Molke?

TheStirrer · 12/11/2019 11:56

Uniqlo unwired light bra - sooooo comfy!

MIdgebabe · 12/11/2019 12:04

Another molke vote

MIdgebabe · 12/11/2019 12:05

And I'm a 30 HH , plenty of support, even for moderate exercise like climbing or hill walking and yoga

KatharinaRosalie · 12/11/2019 12:07

Blather I'm 30F or FF, there are plenty of online retailers offering that size. Figleaves, Brastop, Belle Lingerie and you can find hundreds of offers on eBay (new, of course).

OP I would also suggest a fit check, and if underwire is still unformfortable, I also vote for Molke. Supportive, and no monoboob.

TreacherousPissFlap · 12/11/2019 12:13

I haven't worn a "proper" bra for about ten years, I decided the mono-boob was a small price to pay Grin

I have some Shock Absorber sports bras that hold everything in place, but also a selection of bralettes from OddBalls. I am a 28E Hmm and was recently told by the breast doctor that I am still "well supported"

Dowser · 12/11/2019 12:28

Was just thinking about how much I love sainsburys lace underwired bras..they are only about £8
The middle bit fits close to chest wall and the band at the back doesn’t ride up
I’ve gone from a 38dd to a 40 dd ( who ate all the pies then)
Still comfortable
