Implantation bleeding?

Posting for traffic sorry. I know this is AIBU but please be kind ☹️

I’m estimated 5.5 weeks pregnant and a couple of hours ago I started bleeding when I went to the toilet. There were no clots but a lot of red blood, it’s been a pretty emotional couple of hours.

I’ve spoken to the nurse on my maternity unit who has said it’s possible that it’s implantation bleeding - I said to her I was under the impression implantation bleeding isn’t heavy but she said it can be sometimes and I just need to monitor for clots which would be the real sign of a miscarriage. She said if there are no clots but I keep bleeding the only real way of knowing if I’ve had a miscarriage or not is to do a pregnancy test in a couple of weeks.

Feeling hopeful, has anyone had heavy bleeding and gone on to have a successful pregnancy?

For what it’s worth I have one child already and have never miscarried.

At 5.5 weeks the implantation time is long gone. IMO, it's what they say when they just want to fob you off.

Bleeding can happen on it's own, due to MC or in a normal pregnancy. Unfortunately, only time will tell which one is it.

[handhold] I know it's tough.

I bled at 5 weeks and 8 weeks there ws no explanation for either bleeds. I'm over due at moment Confused
Ring the early pregnancy unit and demand a scan
Good luck Star

My uneducated opinion would be it’s not implantation bleeding as that would be long gone by now.

Some women do seem to bleed through their pregnancies, I’m not sure why and I’m sure there is a much more educated reason/answer as to why and who it happens to.

I know it’s really shit and very worrying but I think the only thing you can do is monitor for now.

I’m not sure about implantation bleeding, but when I was 6 weeks pregnant with my daughter, I started spotting. A feed days later I had two big haemorrhages with big clots and had to rush to A&E. It was a really scary couple of weeks, but everything was fine and my little girl is 7 weeks old now, and absolutely perfect.

They couldn’t tell me why it happened in my case, and the midwives at the EPU said while it’s not ‘normal’, it’s fairly common.

Bleeding doesn’t always mean miscarriage, though of course sometimes it does. I know the waiting is really tough, but I hope it all settles down and you have a smooth, uncomplicated pregnancy.

I had bleeding on a few occasions in early pregnancy. Had to have a few scans before 12 weeks. I am currently 6 months pregnant now and baby is currently doing somersaults as I write.

Thanks for the responses all. Feeling much less shocked and a bit more philosophical about it now, I think it probably is a miscarriage. And I guess if it’s not that will just be a nice surprise Smile

Ok- I’m really hoping that they gave you advice about what you should do in the event of:
Soaking through a pad in less than an hour, feeling unwell, temperature, smelly discharge or pain you find difficult to manage.

In our area you would normally ask GP to refer/ self refer to EPAU, and they would look to do a scan at approx 6 weeks plus. (as heartbeat should then be visible).

I’m a veteran of many miscarriages, though have 3 healthy children and bled with every pregnancy including the healthy ones. With my youngest I would have sworn I had miscarried and hadn’t (was my last pregnancy so plenty of experience of m/c by then- and had clots)

Randomname85 · 11/11/2019 18:58

They did mention that yes @lifecouldbeadream. Thanks so much for that - so hard not knowing as still haven’t seen any clots. Will just have to be patient and wait and see.

I would think a midwife has a better understanding when implantation happens?

Hope you are OK, OP. I think you can only wait and see.

Fwiw, I started bleeding at 5-6 weeks without clots. You don't have to have clots to miscarry. I keep everything crossed for you.

I had something called a hematoma and bleed (with clots) weekly up to 3 months. Currently trying to get my beautiful 14 month old into bed. Hoping for the best for you. X
