To consider wearing slipper at work?

Slightly lighthearted but I would actually love to be able to!
I lecture at a university, so I wouldn't consider it for the days I'm student facing.
However, I have an admin day once a week, where I barely move from my desk, I share with two guys who aren't always in.
There is a small chance students will come to see me or I may pop in to the office a couple of doors down the corridor
Could I get away with the boot slippers??

Weirdly, me and DH were talking about this earlier and I did use to wear slippers when I was in the office in the winter as sitting in big boots wasnt always comfy.

Cant do it now that I'm back as a chef but I do get to wear almost pyjama like uniform whilst I work.

Whodoyoutrust · 10/11/2019 20:34

We do in our office.

Thefemalekeithrichards · 10/11/2019 20:39

I have to put my esd/safety’s on when I’m going into our production area but in my office at my desk I put my Uggs on.
As long as your slippers aren’t ‘Benny Hill/On the Buses’ 70’s pink maribou feather trimmed kitten heels I’m sure it would not be even noted. Got to be comfy

I work in an office and can be at my desk for hours at a time and not move. I have slippers in my drawer as I have awful circulation and my feet are always cold...
YANBU!

BentNeckLady · 10/11/2019 20:44

I quite often just have socks on in my office and no-one seems to care.

LionelRitchieStoleMyNotebook · 10/11/2019 20:50

I quite often just wear socks in the office in winter, my feet get too hot in boots and I have a couple of colleagues with health issues who need the heating turned up. A colleague has a hot water bottle in her desk that she uses if chilly or has period pains, sometimes other people borrow it, another colleague who has very poor circulation has one of those giant plug in heated slippers that you put both feet in, it's on her OCC health plan and even PAC tested! It depends what your workplace is like.

AloneLonelyLoner · 10/11/2019 21:03

Do it! I would. My boss does. Except his slippers look like sandals and it makes me laugh as he becomes 'dude in sandals and socks'.

SalemShadow · 10/11/2019 21:08

I do it with my office job

DisplayPurposesOnly · 10/11/2019 21:16

I used to work with someone who changed into slippers at work every day (office job). He changed back into shoes for meetings etc.

Obviously at Christmas we hid his slippers and replaced them with reindeer ones Wink

Dollymixture22 · 10/11/2019 21:41

I used to work with a lady who did this. Brutal I know but I did think less of her! It defiantly made her look less professional.

Damntheman · 10/11/2019 22:44

Most people in Norway wear indoor shoes or straight up slippers at desk jobs. If they didn't the office would be aflood with dirty snow melt half the year.

recklessruby · 10/11/2019 23:04

I wish I could do this as I m on my feet all day teaching and have a sore toe currently. But i cant Sad. Those boot slippers (i call them baffies Grin) would be perfect!!

rollon2020 · 11/11/2019 07:17

@Dollymixture22 that's what worries me about actually doing it.
Maybe if I can find something that looks more boot than slipper then...

I'd go for it!

Fuzzyspringroll · 11/11/2019 07:41

I teach at a school where everyone (kids and staff) wear slippers indoors.

Fuzzyspringroll · 11/11/2019 07:42

Wears.. (I'm off sick for a reason :) )

MaryShelley1818 · 11/11/2019 07:42

I keep little ballerina slippers in my locker to wear in the office. I spend about 20% of my time at my desk - the rest of the time on home visits/meetings/in schools. Someone who’d actually judge me based on that and not the work I do wouldn’t be worth even thinking about.
Luckily I’ve got really good managers and work in a good team where hard work and competency is more important.

Dollymixture22 · 11/11/2019 08:07

Rollon - she wore the fluffy slipper type. Could not ever be confused with shoes😊. But yes, everyone talked about it and senior management rolled their eyes a lot.

SerenDippitty · 11/11/2019 08:09

A former colleague had an electric overblanket on her chair which she’d plug in and if she felt chilly. I’ve since acquired one and it is my favourite thing in the world.

Dollymixture22 · 11/11/2019 08:22

I suppose it depends on the environment you work in. My work, environment is high pressure, competitive and can be cutthroat. You never know when you are going to be called into a very important meeting. Jeans for example are an absolute no. Men debate whether they can get away with not wearing a tie.

Walking into a meeting with a multi million pound client while wearing large, fluffy slippers is odd. Ballet slippers would probably just look like shoes and be okay.

Good managers still find this a bit odd😊. Hard work and competency are a given, you wouldn’t survive unless you were good. But image, in some Industries, also matters. Clients paying large fees expect a certain level of polish, and would be nervous to see this level of eccentricity and, to be honest, lack of respect.

BlueJava · 11/11/2019 08:26

Yes! I have Ugg style boot ones from Next- i wore them to 24h Tescos the other night.

EvenMoreFuriousVexation · 11/11/2019 08:34

No. Wearing slob casual dress while you're working detracts from your work ethic.

Mr Trump, is that you? Grin
