Devices at restaurants

AIBU to think of you let your child watch cartoons/play games with full volume at a restaurant or pub you’re being an absolute dick?!

I can’t believe how often this happens and in nice places too - most recently a fairly upmarket country pub at 8.30pm...plenty of people in there having a night off kids, trying to enjoy a meal and drink.

How are people so rude/oblivious?!

But if they're old enough for screens they are old enough for headphones.

When I've overheard other people's devices in public I have been known to pointedly say to my own DC "I hope that's not your iPad I can hear because you should either have headphones on or turn the sound off...". It usually causes the offender to turn it down.

Mine take books with them, they’re quiet as mice for hours at a time

I have no idea why anyone is smug about this. Reading at the table is really ill mannered.

Which is why they don’t read when anyone’s eating, and only get their books when we’re done and are perhaps having coffees or a drink or two.

But thank you so much for your concern, you’re extremely well mannered, evidently.
