AIBU to be fed up of neighbours fireworks?

Am I being grumpy and a miserable old cow for being fed up of the fireworks ? We live in a semi detached, and we don't talk to our neighbours much as it is a fairly busy road with houses either side so nobody is really pally-pally with each other just because it's not like a little neighbourhood if you get me. Our next door neighbours (That join to our house) have a little boy, they're nice enough, smile at you etc but not on major talking terms. They have had a firework display in their garden for the last 8 days. It goes on for ages and I do like fireworks on bonfire night , they're fun for kids I get that, but every night til very late. And they're flying into our garden and landing in our plant beds etc. AIBU to be getting a bit cheesed off now or am I just a party pooper? It's more the fact they're still going at gone 11pm on work nights too and it's not even firework night anymore?

I would definitely have a word! One off's is ok, but even then I would expect it to be at a earlier time and not interfering with kids bedtimes etc.

MrsExpo · 09/11/2019 20:25

www.gov.uk/fireworks-the-law

Print this off and post it through their door. Totally unacceptable.

GaaaaarlicBread · 09/11/2019 20:26

@pepsiLola I was worried I was sounding like a right misery. I don't know how to approach it with them? We have a rabbit and it's really scaring her! Had to bring her inside (I'm not so fussed about that but DH isn't impressed Grin )

@MrsExpo I didn't find that when I was searching the web, just what I was looking for. Thank you!

I would just ask if they are planning more fireworks tonight as you want to put your rabbit back outside.

I would hope they'd get the hint, but I doubt it!

PookieDo · 09/11/2019 20:32

Yes this is actually not allowed. I would post it through their door

We’re having the same problem with the neighbours at the back! God knows where they’ve got their fireworks from, it’s like bombs going off they’re so loud! My poor cats are terrified!!

I don’t mind on Bonfire Night but wish they’d fuck off with it now, the dicks!

GaaaaarlicBread · 09/11/2019 20:38

@EdersonsSmileyTattoo yeah that's our problem too! Like actual bombs! Your poor cats :( we are the last house on the main stretch of road but at the back of us is like a little cul de sac that slightly backs onto our garden and they have them going too, so we have a double whammy but they stop around 9pm. It's just awful. It's the same at new year , we don't mind when it's the actual celebration but last year they went on and on til gone 4pm! And their little boy is only about 6 years old

4am not 4pm!

It doesn’t actually say that there are designated days for fireworks on that link—only times? I guess it’s because some people use them for weddings and stuff? Also it says do not set them off in the street. Some people near me set them off at the side of the street on new year which is ridiculous.

OP I feel your pain—I’m still hearing fireworks this evening from a couple of streets over. I wish it was contained to only bonfire night and new year but if they’re done by 11pm according to that link they’re not breaking the rules? Have I read it right? It’s frustrating. It really upsets my dogs. I wouldn’t mind one or two nights but it’s been every day this week for me too and I know people are entitled to enjoy the celebration but courtesy for neighbours should also be remembered!

Junkmail · 09/11/2019 20:42

Sorry just saw your other post—4am!!! I think you could call the police for that TBH!

GaaaaarlicBread · 09/11/2019 20:45

@Junkmail They're still going at gone 11pm on most nights, it's such a hard one as my husband is as shy as anything and won't say boo to a goose, and I don't want any conflict so daren't say anything! I feel for your dogs as it really is distressing to animals because they have no idea! My old dog was the same, it really shook him up bless him. I understand when it's religious celebrations etc as well but round here (it's a populated culture of Asians) so when they celebrate they go to town on it until early hours of the mornings. We're dreading having a baby with all this noise!! Currently TTC , it'll be a nightmare!

@Junkmail whoops crossed posts with you! Yeah they go on and on for ages!

I came on MN to post a thread. Neighbours have been going on for 30 fucking minutes my baby has woken up twice it is SOOOOO loud. Every other neighbour texting me asking wtf is going on. Didn’t warn us, nothing - just so inconsiderate and irritating. 30 fucking minutes and still going!

GaaaaarlicBread · 09/11/2019 20:51

@crispysausagerolls I have seen your post before and bloody love your username it gives me life haha

I feel for you, with a baby that is really awful. That's what genuinely worries us as when we bought this house last year we were saying 'if this is like this when we have a baby we will be in trouble' but weren't even thinking about TTC at that time, now we are TTC and worried sick. They also do things like light a fire when you have your washing on the line etc , which sounds petty that I am annoyed by that but where I grew up and lived previously with my Husband, neighbours would actually pop their head over and pre-warn us that they're going to light a fire so we could bring the washing in. Just stuff like that, it's frustrating.

I'm sick to the back teeth of hearing bloody fireworks. We never really got many round here before but this year it's horrendous. They've just started here at 9pm so I'm expecting hours more of it.
They were so loud the other night that my cat who doesn't usually care fell off the radiator in shock. I feel so sorry for any pets outside in this - especially rabbits who can't get out of their cages to hide.

What's even worse is my neighbours constantly slamming their fucking doors going in and out for their stupid fireworks (which of course they're setting off right next to MY fence and within a meter of the house walls).

crispysausagerolls · 09/11/2019 21:24

Light a fire?! Outside?! Are they cavemen? 😬😬😬

I think the police have gone round here because they were absolutely not the appropriate type of firework for a garden! Sounded like actual bombs.

Monkeynuts18 · 09/11/2019 21:29

Jesus. YANBU at all. On 5 November is one thing. One Friday or Saturday night either side if Bonfire Night is on a weekday is fine. But 8 nights on the trot until 11pm? That’s way way past the line!

HeronLanyon · 09/11/2019 21:35

Good luck op - sounds unacceptable and really thoughtless not to have spoken to you to warn or explain. Have forgotten when Diwali is but that can be a few nights of fireworks.

We’ve just endured the Southbank Lord Mayors fireworks which went on for well over half an hour with the loudest bangers I’ve ever heard - hundreds of them. Lovely for short time but It was ridiculously loud and pets gone crazy.

stucknoue · 09/11/2019 21:36

My neighbours seem to have had constant fireworks for two weeks so far but it's different houses of course, dog is currently "sheltering" under my duvet

HeronLanyon · 09/11/2019 21:37

Forget my Diwali thought - 28/29 October this year and 5 days max.

Starksforthewin · 09/11/2019 21:45

I’m with you, OP. So sick of it now. Two weeks and counting and tonight it is four hours so far!
It is pouring down with rain outside but even that doesn’t stop these selfish fuckers.
The deep bass notes of the ones that sound like bombs are utterly terrifying and bring out a visceral reaction in me, I just want to run!
The sooner they get banned the better.
