Maternity ward visitors

Gave birth yesterday and now on maternity ward. Had a difficult night last night with not a lot of sleep as struggled with some feeding issues. The woman in the next door bed has had a steady stream of visitors all day so far, sometimes as many as six or seven at a time! I assume these visits are all prescheduled as a new load turn up as soon as another are leaving, then have a really loud few minutes while they "change over". I'm desperate for a snooze and they are so loud and keep bumping into the curtain between the beds😣 . I get they are all very excited but it is impossible to rest and they are constantly using the shared en suite bathroom which is supposed to be for patients only. I also feel really uncomfortable delicately walking across the room in a hospital gown in front of a crowd. AIBU to speak to midwife?

Neednameinspiration I hope you have a more peaceful evening. You’ll feel so much better when you can get home as post natal wards are horrid even without inconsiderate visitors.

Please do say something to the midwife if they continue to bother you. They shouldn’t be hogging the patient toilet and staff should be enforcing that as a minimum. I hated using the ward loo for my second (I had a private room first time round). I had to keep weeing in a jug as they were monitoring my output and I found it awkward enough wondering around with a jug of wee and trying to mop up my blood. I’m glad my hospital was really strict on visiting and I got out before visiting hours. Being on a ward with my first would have totally broken me.

We also have the open curtain rule on my peadiatric ward. It's so we can see the patients. Curtains are allowed to be shut for breast feeding and personal care, getting changed etc. And that is all. It's for patient safety.

How is that enforceable on a Maternity ward?
Where, bearing in mind, women aren’t ‘patients’ they’re ‘service users’ and - more often than not - completely well.
I can’t imagine that at my local trust. Is this a widespread thing?
